What are maintenance groundskeepers?

Maintenance groundskeepers are professionals responsible for the upkeep and care of outdoor areas such as lawns, gardens, parks, and athletic fields. Their duties include mowing grass, trimming hedges, planting flowers, removing weeds, and ensuring the landscape is clean and safe. They may also maintain irrigation systems, repair outdoor equipment, and clear debris or snow. Groundskeepers play an essential role in keeping outdoor spaces attractive and functional for public or private use.

What qualifications do groundsmen need?

Groundskeepers typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and should have knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, and equipment operation. Physical stamina, attention to safety, and sometimes certifications in equipment use or pesticide application are also beneficial.

What is the highest paid maintenance job?

The highest paid maintenance jobs are often specialized roles such as facilities managers, maintenance supervisors, or industrial maintenance technicians, especially in industries like oil and gas, manufacturing, or aerospace. These positions typically require advanced skills, certifications, and experience, and can offer salaries significantly higher than general groundskeeping or basic maintenance roles.
