PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the receipt, processing, and distribution of mail.\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

\r\n\r\n Sorts, distributes, and routes incoming and interoffice mail;\r\n Operates automatic postage application equipment, mail inserters, and weight scales;\r\n Weighs and stamps postaged, franked, or metered mail;\r\n Drives state vehicles in the delivery of United States and interagency mail;\r\n Picks up and delivers mail at United States Post Offices;\r\n Signs for insured, certified, registered, and special delivery mail;\r\n Updates and maintains records;\r\n Schedules vehicle maintenance;\r\n Provides postal service assistance to customers;\r\n May maintain daily cash records;\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

\r\n Knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations, rates, and classes of mail;\r\n Skills\r\n \r\n oral and written communication skills;\r\n interpersonal skills;\r\n \r\n \r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n follow oral and written instructions;\r\n perform basic arithmetic computations;\r\n utilize computer software;\r\n operate computerized and mechanical postal processing equipment;\r\n \r\n \r\n Mechanical ability.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of experience in a mail service or postal operation involving the operation and maintenance of mail service equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience in mail service coordination.\r\n \r\n Experience providing customer service to public patrons.\r\n \r\n Experience using Pitney Bowes Send Suite Shipping Software.\r\n \r\n Experience using Mail Machine Metering Equipment.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.\r\n A physical examination may be required.\r\n\r\n

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weight.
