Job description

Position Description
Primarily responsible for a variety of duties related to identifying, sorting and distributing mail in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines. Also responsible for operating and maintaining the metering equipment and backing up other areas within the department.
Job duties include the following:
  • Scan and distribute incoming mail, packages and other accountable mail items.
  • Deliver and pick up mail as scheduled each day to and from designated departments, offices and employees and obtain signatures as required. Deliver special and rush packages and boxes as needed. Deliver boxes of paper to numerous locations according to a schedule and as needed in between scheduled deliveries.
  • Ship letters, packages and boxes using the most cost-effective method. Maintain a neat and organized mailroom as well as documentation and reports.
  • Assist with metering outgoing mail with correct postage determined by weighing items and using charts and meter machine. Processing return mail items.
  • Cross train on the various functions within Mail Operations to assist with covering as needed and complete miscellaneous related duties and projects as assigned including covering at other nearby locations where work is completed independently. Must remain current on all policies and procedures and responsible for all job duties of those positions when covering them.
  • Assist with Courier duties as needed by gathering documents and items from various company locations and transporting them via company vehicle to the appropriate destination as indicated.
  • Working hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 am- 5:00 pm

Position Requirements
The qualified candidate must be reliable and have the ability to increase pace to meet deadlines while maintaining quality. Teamwork and basic PC and communication skills are needed as well as good sorting and organizational skills. Handles some tasks requiring substantial repetition. Must be able to operate vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record. A minimum of 1 year of office related experience is preferred and shipping or postal service knowledge is a plus.
Working Conditions
  • Lifting and carrying full mail trays and pushing and pulling mail carts
  • Must be able to work standing much of the time in addition to bending and stooping
  • Lifting is necessary in order to ship and deliver boxes and paper (paper boxes weigh 50-75 pounds)
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements when covering courier duties

Work independently in the absence of supervision when covering at nearby locations
