Job description

Machine Shop Supervisor
At Boom Supersonic, we're building Superpower - a 42-megawatt industrial gas turbine designed to deliver high-efficiency power generation at scale. Our first prototype is being assembled right now, we're standing up the production facility in parallel, and we're hiring the supervisor who will build the team that runs it - so that when the prototype proves out, we're ready to build the first production units without losing a day.
We're looking for a Machine Shop Supervisor who can grow that team.
This isn't a role where you step into a running operation with a fully established team and proven processes. You will hire the machinists, set the standards, and create the shift from the ground up - while running daily operations as the team grows around you.
On any given shift you'll own it all: safety, quality, schedule, team development, and the handoff to the next supervisor. You'll make hard calls without a playbook because the playbook doesn't exist yet - you're writing it. When the Machining Manager isn't on the floor, you are the management presence. When problems surface, you solve them. When people on your team aren't meeting the standard, you address it directly and early.
We're a small team compared to the primes, which means your decisions have real impact and your fingerprints are on everything your shift produces. That's not a qualifier - it's the point.
What we're looking for:
  • Experience in CNC machining with at least 2 years in an explicitly supervisory role in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience building a team or being a first supervisor into a new operation - not just inheriting one.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or industrial manufacturing where safety and quality are non-negotiable.
  • Hiring experience - has screened, evaluated, and recommended candidates with documented outcomes.
  • Communication discipline - runs tight shift handoffs, escalates with context, closes the loop.

What you'll own:
  • Building and developing the team - hiring, onboarding, and accountability.
  • Daily execution - safety, quality, and schedule across every machine on your shift.
  • Shift handoff discipline - the incoming supervisor always knows the full picture.
  • The culture of the shift - standards, norms, and what it means to work here.

If you've built a team in a precision manufacturing environment and found it more satisfying than any other work you've done - this role is for you. If you need an established operation to be effective, it isn't.
Compensation
The Base Salary Range for this position is $99,000 - $125,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom's total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include long-term incentives/equity, a flexible PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
There is no set deadline to apply for this job opportunity. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the search is no longer active.
ITAR Requirement
To conform to U.S. Government aerospace technology export regulations (ITAR and EAR), applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Learn more about ITAR here.
