Shop Technician / Shop Hand

Location: Mesa Machine, 8820 NW Loop 338, Odessa, TX 79764
Job Type: Full-Time | Day Shift
Pay: $20.00–$25.00 per hour
Reports To: Blake Weaver / Shop Foreman

Job Summary

Firethorne is seeking a dependable Shop Technician / Shop Hand to help prepare and maintain quality downhole drilling equipment for our customers.

Working under the direction of trained shop personnel, this position supports the cleaning, handling, inspection, organization, and staging of tools and equipment while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Training will be provided before the employee performs unfamiliar tasks.

Responsibilities

• Clean, wash, and prepare downhole drilling tools, components, and shop equipment for inspection, assembly, repair, or shipment

• Assist trained technicians with the disassembly, assembly, maintenance, inspection, and testing of downhole equipment

• Check parts and tools for visible damage, wear, missing components, or contamination and promptly report findings to a supervisor

• Stage, identify, count, and organize tools, parts, materials, and customer equipment for shop work and delivery

• Load, unload, and move equipment using approved material-handling or lifting equipment after receiving the required training and authorization

• Complete assigned job documentation, parts counts, tool identification, and housekeeping checklists accurately

• Keep work areas, floors, benches, tools, and storage areas clean and organized

• Dispose of waste according to company procedures

• Handle customer property carefully to prevent damage or contamination and support shop quality and turnaround expectations

• Follow all safety and operational procedures and wear required PPE

• Assist with other shop tasks as assigned by supervisors or management

• Complete training and demonstrate competency before performing unfamiliar work

Qualifications

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, safety rules, and basic shop documentation

• Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn from supervisors and experienced technicians

• Ability to work safely around heavy tools and equipment, oils, grease, and cleaning products

• Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely after receiving instruction and approval

• Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills

• Ability to work effectively as part of a shop team

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior mechanical, warehouse, construction, oilfield, or industrial shop experience

• Familiarity with basic tools, material handling, lifting, or rigging practices

• Mechanical aptitude and strong housekeeping habits

• Willingness to work overtime and adapt to changing shop priorities

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift or carry up to 50 lbs regularly

• Comfortable working in a shop environment with noise, dust, heat, or cold

• Comfortable working around oil, grease, and cleaning products while wearing required PPE
