Job description

Job Description: The Supervisor position requires 5 years of experience as a supervisor in repair and maintenance efforts onboard U.S. Navy ships in the Trade Skill they are supervising, and On-Site Supervisors must reflect the same (3 years) experience, training, and qualifications, as the Tradesperson they are supervising. These periods of experience cannot overlap.
Required Skills and Experiences: Supervisors shall possess 5 years' experience supervising the following requirements:
Outside Machinist Typical Trade Tasks
a. Open, inspect, and repair components of submarine sea water, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
b. Remove, inspect, and repair various components (periscope, masts, and antennas) of submarine sail.
c. Perform repair and restoration work on propulsion shaft, shaft couplings or vibration reducers.
d. Remove, inspect and repair and reinstall various fairwater, stern plane, and/or steering & diving system components.
e. Repair all types of main and auxiliary machinery, including but not limited to capstan, shaft seals, snorkel induction, snorkel exhaust, mast, and various types of pumps, resilient mounts, valves and valve subcomponents.
f. Remove, repair, overhaul, install and align equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps and various types of valves.
g. Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ship's armament.
h. Repair all types of main and auxiliary machinery, including but not limited to capstan, shaft seals, snorkel induction, snorkel exhaust, mast, and various types of pumps, resilient mounts, valves and valve subcomponents.
Outside Machinist Trade Skill Requirements.
a. Each Outside Marine Machinist must have at least 3 years specialized experience on US Navy vessels or Commercial Marine experience independently performing 2 or more of the tasks identified in The Typical Trade Tasks paragraph.
b. Each Outside Marine Machinist must be qualified to use typical trade related precision measurement instruments such as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, Vernier scales, and various types of micrometers.
c. Each Outside Marine Machinist shall possess the ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints.
d. Each Outside Machinist shall have the ability to perform shop mathematical calculations involving basic geometry to lay out angles, arcs and circles.
