Why This Role Exists

This role exists to lead and elevate the machine shop operations at Precision Aero Fab during continued growth in aerospace, defense, and commercial manufacturing programs.

As an AS9100-certified manufacturer, Precision Aero Fab produces high-precision components and complex metal assemblies where accuracy, repeatability, and leadership matter. The Master Machinist / Programmer plays a critical role in ensuring parts are produced efficiently, correctly, and on scheduleโ€”while building a high-performing team around them.

This is not a โ€œbutton pusherโ€ role. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for both technical execution and shop performance.

---

The Work Youโ€™ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC mills and lathes
  • Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam
  • Program complex parts including multi-axis geometries (3โ€“5 axis preferred)
  • Interpret technical drawings and GD&T to ensure part accuracy
  • Perform first-article and in-process inspection
  • Use precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, and CMM equipment
  • Oversee daily shop workflow, scheduling, and job prioritization
  • Supervise, train, and mentor machinists and apprentices
  • Manage tooling, materials, and production resources
  • Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality teams
  • Identify process improvements to reduce cost and improve throughput
  • Prepare job quotes and track shop performance metrics
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and maintain a safe working environment
  • Maintain organized documentation for programs, setups, and production records

---

CAM Software:

  • Mastercam (Advanced proficiency required)

Equipment:

  • CNC Mills
  • CNC Lathes
  • Multi-Axis Machining Centers

Inspection Tools:

  • Micrometers
  • Calipers
  • CMM
  • Standard metrology tools

---

Materials You May Work With

  • Aluminum
  • Steel (Mild & Alloy)
  • Stainless Steel
  • Aerospace-grade metals

---

What Weโ€™re Looking For

Required:

  • 7+ years of CNC machining experience
  • 3+ years in a supervisory or shop leadership role
  • Advanced Mastercam programming experience
  • Experience with CNC mills and lathes (3โ€“5 axis preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation
  • Deep knowledge of tooling selection and cutting parameters
  • Ability to hold tight tolerances and maintain quality standards
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing
  • Experience leading AS9100 or aerospace-regulated production environments
  • Experience with cost estimation and quoting

---

Why Machinists Like Working Here

Machinists choose Precision Aero Fab because:

  • AS9100-certified aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Leadership team with deep engineering and machining expertise
  • Opportunity to build and lead a shopโ€”not just run parts
  • Close proximity to major aerospace hubs (LA, San Diego, Phoenix)
  • Cost-competitive region with stable growth opportunities
  • A culture focused on precision, accountability, and continuous improvement

This is a chance to shape operations and make a measurable impact in a growing aerospace fabrication company.
