Job description

Job Overview
We are a tunneling contractor based in Toronto, ON that offers its employees exciting opportunities for career growth, a great working environment, and competitive compensation. We own and operate Herrenknecht Micro tunneling equipment and require experienced MTBM operators to fill vacant roles. The Microtunneling and Boring Machine Operator will be part of the operations team responsible for the safe, technical and economical operation of the tunnel boring machine, through the control container, to ensure each project is executed within the approved schedule and according to project parameters.

Duties

  • Operate the tunnel boring machine according to provided tunneling parameters
  • Actively participate in MTBM system assembly and disassembly during mobilization and demobilization periods
  • Responsible for daily maintenance and routine repairs of tunnel boring machine
  • Complete Inspection Test Plans on all MTBM utility connections
  • Monitor line and grade to ensure alignment remains within tolerances described in project plans and specifications
  • Assist with equipment troubleshooting
  • Maintain accurate records of jacking operations per specified forms
  • Train and direct work of junior MTBM operators

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of specialized experience as an MTBM operator operating Herrenknecht microtunneling machines
  • Demonstrated understanding of trenchless equipment
  • Basic mechanical and electrical skills
  • Knowledge of Bentonite Slurry systems with the specific use of centrifugal pumps
  • General PLC (Programmable Logic Control) System understanding and training on U.N.S (Universal Navigation System) that guides the machine
  • Expert knowledge in MTBM lubrications systems and the products involved
  • Relevant work experience with Herrenknecht Micro-Tunnel Boring Machines (MTBM)

  • Valid Drivers license (required)
  • While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing walking and/or sitting.
  • Occasionally required to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop, or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside
  • Capability to work in confined spaces is required
