Job Title: Custom Equipment Machine Builder

Job Description

The Custom Equipment Machine Builder assembles, builds, and integrates custom industrial machinery, with a primary focus on palletizers and related automated equipment. This role works from detailed mechanical drawings, schematics, and build prints to construct machines from the ground up. You apply strong mechanical aptitude, precise attention to detail, and hands-on experience with tools, machine components, and industrial assemblies to deliver reliable, high-quality equipment.

Responsibilities

• Read, interpret, and follow engineering prints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and detailed work instructions.
• Assemble custom palletizer systems and automated mechanical equipment from the ground up, ensuring all components meet design specifications.
• Fit, align, and install mechanical components including frames, conveyors, pneumatics, guarding, motors, and gearboxes.
• Conduct mechanical setups, adjustments, and alignments to ensure machines operate according to functional and performance requirements.
• Use hand tools and appropriate equipment to complete mechanical assembly, fabrication, and integration tasks safely and efficiently.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues during assembly and testing to ensure equipment reliability.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to clarify drawings, address build challenges, and improve assembly processes.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures within a custom manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience working with low voltage systems, including safe use of hand tools and pulling wire.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, engineering prints, mechanical drawings, and schematics.
• Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial or mechanical setting.
• Strong mechanical mindset with demonstrated skills in machine building, fabrication, and assembly.
• Ability to perform fitting, alignment, and installation of mechanical components such as frames, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, and guarding.
• Experience interpreting schematics and work instructions to complete complex mechanical builds.
• Proficiency using common shop and hand tools in a manufacturing or custom equipment environment.
• Attention to detail and commitment to building equipment that meets functional and quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with diesel mechanics.
• Experience with welding in a fabrication or machine-building environment.
• Experience in custom manufacturing or automated equipment assembly.
• Comfort working on both day and night shifts as business needs require.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and other builders.

Work Environment

This role is based in a custom manufacturing environment focused on building automated equipment and palletizer systems. You work with mechanical components, hydraulics, pneumatics, low voltage systems, and a variety of hand tools and fabrication equipment. Shifts are available on both days and nights, with a 3rd shift operating from 10:30 pm to 7:00 am, Sunday night through Thursday night. Training takes place on the day shift, Monday through Friday, to ensure you are fully prepared before transitioning to your regular schedule. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork while working around industrial machinery and assemblies.E

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenfield, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
