Position Title: Tool Builder

Location: Auburn Hills

Shifts Needed: Day

Days | Monday- Friday 6a-4:45p + Saturday 6a-12p

Character of Position

Under the supervision of the department supervisor, tool builders are responsible for setting up and operating various machines and shop equipment. They must have stamina, the ability to lift heavy loads, be able to concentrate on performing tasks and commit to safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Able to follow blueprints, sketches, and specifications, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment
  • Strong understanding how to review engineering information, tool design drawings, and other specifications to determine methods and sequence of operations to fabricate tools.
  • Ability to print BOM, and SOW readings.
  • Able to complete tool builds with information provided from print, BOM, and SOW.
  • Must be able to drill, tap and ream holds.
  • Install dowels.
  • Operate Bridgeport and surface grinder
  • Deburring, paint prep, stenciling and ID of materials
  • Operation of a hi-low and overhead crane.
  • Ensure that all of the assigned activities are completed as scheduled.
  • Knowledgeable in GD&T
  • Must be able to achieve quality and production goals.
  • Follow and maintain all safety protocols and housekeeping requirements
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Understand and work to all QMS procedures and work instructions
  • Ability to read complex blueprints
  • Identify and find specifications within blueprint given
  • Geometric tolerances (understand and recognize some symbols)

  • Understanding of Enovia

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to operate industrial trucks and overhead cranes.
  • Tool builder or mold experience (aerospace or automotive).
  • Must have own tools including; drill motors, grind tools (DA and 90 grinder) and toolbox.
  • Quality and safety mindset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take direction and work as a team.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Standing for long periods of time, lifting loads up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, twisting.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
