Job description

Job Summary:
Galaxy Technologies is seeking an experienced Tool Builder with a passion for precision and innovation to support our Aerospace, Defense, and Space programs. In this role, you will design, fabricate, assemble, and repair complex tooling and fixtures that support the manufacturing of high-quality aircraft components. This position plays a critical role in driving efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement across our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and repair precision tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and related tooling
  • Interpret blueprints and MBD models; apply GD&T principles in all work
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to develop effective tooling solutions
  • Create tooling components using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, or similar)
  • Set up and operate machining equipment including lathes, Bridgeport mills, and surface grinders
  • Troubleshoot tooling and equipment issues and resolve independently
  • Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.) for inspection and quality control
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Develop sketches and detailed fabrication instructions
  • Work with materials such as aluminum, steel, and graphite
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and shop equipment safely
  • Track job hours and production status accurately
  • Follow all safety standards and PPE requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including machining and inspection
  • Proven experience operating machine tools such as lathes, Bridgeport mills, and surface grinders
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply GD&T principles
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
  • Ability to manage projects independently from start to finish
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, or similar high-precision industries
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and use hands for extended periods
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Requires close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • Work performed in a well-lit, climate-controlled indoor facility with adequate ventilation
  • Noise levels are frequently high; PPE (hearing, eye, and foot protection) is required
