Job description

Job Description About the Role Pinnacle Partners is recruiting for a Controls Engineer on behalf of a client in Laotto, Indiana. We are seeking an experienced controls professional with strong PLC programming skills who enjoys working on custom machinery from concept through customer installation. This role offers a mix of electrical design, programming, commissioning, and customer interaction while keeping travel primarily regional.

Key Responsibilities: Develop PLC, HMI, and industrial controls solutions for custom automated equipment. Design industrial electrical systems, schematics, and drawings using AutoCAD Electrical. Program Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI platforms from scratch.

Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and specify electrical components and purchased equipment. Perform electrical calculations and ensure compliance with applicable safety standards. Support machine build, validation, testing, and factory acceptance testing (FAT).

Commission equipment both at the X-Y Tool & Die facility and at customer locations. Troubleshoot controls systems and provide technical support during installation and startup. Develop customer documentation including electrical drawings, network diagrams, programming documentation, and user manuals.

Support automation systems including servos, VFDs, HMIs, communication networks, robotics integration, and safety systems. Collaborate with engineering, machining, panel build, and manufacturing teams throughout each project. Requirements: Minimum of 5 years of Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or Systems Integration experience Ability to program PLCs and HMIs from scratch Experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms Experience with: Studio 5000 RSLogix 500 Siemens Step 7 Siemens TIA Portal AutoCAD Electrical Strong electrical schematic design and blueprint interpretation skills Experience commissioning industrial automation equipment Ability to travel approximately 40%, primarily within 90 minutes of Fort Wayne with occasional national travel Experience supporting custom automated machinery or machine integration project Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or another STEM-related discipline Experience with robotics integration Experience working for a custom machine builder or systems integrator Panel design or panel building experience Experience with custom manufacturing automation equipment Benefits Overview: Competitive base salary up to approximately $100,000-$120,000 Mileage reimbursement for customer travel with weekly expense reimbursement Rental vehicle available for longer-duration travel when appropriate Primarily regional travel with limited overnight travel First shift Monday-Friday schedule with minimal overtime or weekend work Long-tenured, family-owned organization with a collaborative engineering environment Explore More Engineering Opportunities This role falls within our Engineering/Manufacturing division, where we specialize in placing professionals in areas such as: Mechanical/Electrical Engineer Manufacturing/Process Engineer Controls Engineer Designer/Drafter Operations (Plant Engineering) Explore additional Engineering roles and learn more about how we support Engineering professionals: https://www.partnersinstaffing.com/find-jobs or https://www.partnersinstaffing.com/manufacturing-engineering Not the right fit
