POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior MS Access Database Developer leads the development, maintenance, and optimization of a federal financial management database environment. The role requires expert-level proficiency in MS Access front-end development and AWS/MariaDB backend systems, with strong SQL skills and experience managing multi-user database environments supporting complex, multi-year financial data. The ideal candidate brings a track record of delivering reliable, high-performance database solutions in support of federal program reporting requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads all development, maintenance, and optimization of the MS Access front-end and AWS/MariaDB backend for the BOB Financial Database.
  • Manages forms, queries, reporting tables, automation routines, and ODBC connectivity.
  • Ensures reporting accuracy, daily data refresh processes, system performance tuning, and prompt error resolution.
  • Oversees version control, data integrity controls, user access management, and role-based permissions for ~70 system users.
  • Supports multi-year financial data management spanning 5-6 years of historical plan data.
  • Develops and documents database standards, user guides, and system procedures.
  • Provides direct user support, troubleshooting, and training as needed.
  • Coordinates with financial management team to ensure database alignment with FPAC reporting requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of MS Access development experience with advanced expertise in MariaDB/MySQL.
  • Proven experience in federal IT financial data systems and reporting automation.
  • Strong SQL skills and demonstrated experience with ODBC database integration.
  • Experience managing multi-user database environments (50+ users).
  • Familiarity with federal IT financial data management and related reporting workflows.
  • Ability to manage concurrent database tasks including version control, data integrity, and performance tuning.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency with MS Access (Office 365, 64-bit), Oracle MySQL ODBC v8.0.30, and AWS cloud environments.
  • Experience in federal financial data systems supporting agency-level reporting requirements.
