Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking an ERISA Litigation Associate to join a premier litigation practice in Dallas. This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney with substantive ERISA litigation experience who is looking to work on sophisticated, high-stakes employee benefits disputes for leading companies and financial institutions.

The ideal candidate will have experience handling ERISA class actions, fiduciary duty claims, excessive fee litigation, and other complex retirement plan disputes involving both defined contribution and defined benefit plans.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in complex ERISA litigation matters
  • Handle all phases of ERISA class action litigation
  • Defend fiduciaries, plan sponsors, and financial institutions in employee benefits disputes
  • Litigate matters involving:
    • Fiduciary duty claims
    • Excessive fee litigation
    • Defined contribution plan disputes
    • Defined benefit plan disputes
    • Other ERISA-related claims
  • Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and legal memoranda
  • Manage discovery, depositions, and fact development
  • Assist with litigation strategy, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
  • Collaborate with clients and litigation teams on sophisticated employee benefits matters
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Law school class years 2020–2022
  • Substantive ERISA litigation experience
  • Experience litigating ERISA class actions
  • Familiarity with:
    • Fiduciary duty claims
    • Excessive fee litigation
    • Defined contribution retirement plans
    • Defined benefit retirement plans
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities
  • Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex litigation matters and multiple deadlines
  • Strong academic credentials
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $260,000 – $365,000
