Description

The Senior Operations Research Analyst will support the U.S. Coast Guard Surface Forces Logistics Center Business Operations Division by applying advanced analytical, mathematical, statistical, and modeling techniques to evaluate and improve logistics, business, and operational processes. This role will support strategic planning, resource allocation, asset support optimization, system support optimization, and continuous process improvement across SFLC business operations.


The ideal candidate will have strong experience conducting quantitative analysis, developing data-driven recommendations, supporting logistics and sustainment studies, and presenting findings to leadership and cross-functional project teams.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct analysis related to planning, acquisition, sustainment, and logistics support for Coast Guard surface assets.
  • Analyze logistics processes, including supply chain management, engineering services, manpower planning, distribution, and other operational functions.
  • Apply statistical analysis, simulation, computer modeling, linear programming, data mining, and related analytical methods to solve complex operational problems.
  • Extract, transform, load, analyze, and visualize large and complex datasets.
  • Perform or support logistics engineering studies to evaluate the impact of technology, policies, directives, and business processes on logistics supportability.
  • Provide business-focused recommendations to improve strategy, internal processes, program performance, and operational outcomes.
  • Support development of business plans, policies, procedural documentation, and performance measures.
  • Organize, direct, and coordinate activities related to process improvement, productivity improvement, systems alignment, and program audits.
  • Support quality control programs, organizational assessments, and program evaluations.
  • Advise SFLC management using quantitative findings and data-driven insights.
  • Present analysis results, recommendations, and decision-support products in clear, actionable formats.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions and monitor performance outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience applying operations research, quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, simulation, or related analytical methods to business or logistics problems.
  • Experience supporting logistics, sustainment, acquisition, supply chain, manpower, engineering, or operational planning environments.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets and translate results into leadership-level recommendations.
  • Experience developing reports, briefings, dashboards, models, and decision-support products.
  • Strong analytical, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools, modeling tools, visualization platforms, or programming languages used to analyze large datasets.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting the U.S. Coast Guard, DHS, DoD, or federal logistics operations.
  • Familiarity with Coast Guard surface fleet logistics, maintenance, engineering, supply, or asset sustainment processes.
  • Experience with business process improvement, continuous improvement, program audits, or organizational performance measurement.
  • Experience with tools such as Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or similar analytics platforms.
