Job description

Position based in the Yates Industrial Jacksonville, Florida Office. On-site employment only, no remote options. Relocation assistance if required. Must have estimating experience in the Pulp & Paper, Chemical, or Power industries. Ability to estimate pipe, civil, and mechanical disciplines.

Job Summary:

An Industrial Construction Estimator is responsible for calculating the total costs associated with industrial systems projects, from materials and labor to equipment and potential risks. Their primary goal is to produce accurate and competitive bids to help secure contracts and ensure projects stay within budget.

Primary Duties:

  • Analyze Project Documents: Review blueprints, specifications, proposals, and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) to fully understand project scope, requirements, and conditions
  • Perform Quantity Take-offs: Conduct detailed material and equipment take-offs for piping systems and associated mechanical equipment
  • Cost Estimation: Calculate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs using historical data, industry trends, and estimating software
  • Solicit Quotes: Obtain pricing for materials, equipment, and specialized subcontractors to ensure the most cost-effective solutions
  • Risk and Contingency Analysis: Identify potential risks or discrepancies in project documentation and factor them into the estimate to mitigate cost overruns
  • Prepare Proposals and Bids: Assemble comprehensive, well-organized, detailed estimates and proposals for presentation to management, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with engineers, project managers, clients, and vendors to ensure alignment and resolve discrepancies throughout the bidding process and project execution
  • Site Visits: Attend pre-bid meetings and visit potential construction sites to gather field data and assess site conditions firsthand
  • Maintain Data: Organize and maintain estimating files, cost databases, and historical cost information for future reference and benchmarking

    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work in accordance with the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices
    • Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
    • Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
    • Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
    • Participate in workplace inspections.
    • Comply with statutory requirements, including the duty of care.
    • Participate in required and/or assigned training.
    • Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
    • Present a mature approach to working safely.
    • Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
    • Assists with administering the site safety program as required and ensuring Trade Partner compliance with OSHA standards, Yates Site Specific Requirements, and all applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Management in support of the successful completion of the project.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, construction methods, and industry standards (e.g., ASME/ANSI Codes 31.1, 31.3, and 31.9)
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Trimble Autobid, Bluebeam, AutoCAD) and strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, are essential

Requirements:

  • Strong working knowledge of ERP cost management tools
  • Well-rounded base of knowledge in engineering or construction disciplines
  • Strong working knowledge of programs such as Primavera, Excel, Word, and MS Project

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines

Physical Demands/Essential Job Functions:
