Most live-in carpenters charge between $20 and $45 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the project. Rates may be higher for specialized skills or unionized positions, and some carpenters offer flat rates for specific jobs.

What are live in carpenters?

Live in carpenters are skilled tradespeople who reside on-site, typically at a private residence, job site, or estate, to perform carpentry work as needed. Their responsibilities often include constructing, repairing, and maintaining wooden structures, furniture, and fixtures. By living on-site, they can respond quickly to urgent repairs and ongoing projects, making them especially valuable for large properties, long-term renovations, or remote locations. This arrangement can offer convenience and cost savings for property owners while providing job stability and housing for the carpenter.

What is the highest paying carpentry job?

The highest paying carpentry jobs are often specialized roles such as commercial or industrial carpenters, construction managers, or unionized skilled trades with advanced certifications. These positions typically require extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes additional training or licensing, leading to higher wages compared to general carpentry roles.

What is the difference between Live In Carpenter vs Residential Carpenter?

AspectLive In CarpenterResidential Carpenter
CredentialsCarpentry certification or apprenticeshipCarpentry certification or apprenticeship
Work EnvironmentOn-site, often in private homes or estates, with living accommodationsPrimarily in private homes, construction sites, or remodeling projects
Employer & IndustryPrivate homeowners, estate managers, or specialized contractorsResidential construction companies, remodeling firms, or individual homeowners

Live In Carpenters typically reside on-site or nearby, providing ongoing carpentry services in private settings, often with accommodations included. Residential Carpenters focus on building and remodeling homes but usually commute daily without living arrangements. Both roles require similar skills and certifications, but their work environments and living situations differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Live In Carpenter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Carpenter, you need strong carpentry skills, experience with construction or renovation, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often supplemented by an apprenticeship. Familiarity with power tools, woodworking machinery, and safety systems is essential, and some roles may require OSHA certification. Excellent problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for managing projects and client relationships. These competencies ensure high-quality workmanship, safety, and the ability to meet client expectations in a residential setting.

What are some unique challenges faced by a Live In Carpenter compared to traditional carpentry roles?

A Live In Carpenter often manages the dual responsibility of maintaining residential property while balancing personal boundaries, as they live on-site. This arrangement can lead to irregular work hours and a need for strong communication with property owners or residents to ensure privacy and clarity on work expectations. Additionally, Live In Carpenters may be called upon for urgent repairs outside typical working hours and are expected to handle a wide range of carpentry and maintenance tasks. Adaptability and strong interpersonal skills are essential in this role to navigate the unique work environment and build lasting professional relationships.

What jobs make $10,000 a month without a degree?

A live-in carpenter can potentially earn $10,000 a month through high-end residential or commercial projects, especially with specialized skills, experience, and a strong reputation. Achieving this income often requires working long hours, managing multiple projects, or owning a business, rather than relying solely on formal education. Skilled trades like carpentry can be lucrative with experience and niche expertise, but such earnings are typically associated with senior roles or business ownership.

Can a carpenter make $100,000 a year?

Live-in carpenters can potentially earn $100,000 annually, especially with experience, specialized skills, and working in high-demand areas or on large projects. Factors such as union membership, certifications, and overtime can also influence earning potential.

Job description

Job Overview

Live the Vermont lifestyle. Earn top‑tier New England pay. Build with a team that feels like family.

Client is hiring carpenters who want more than just a job - they want a place where their work matters, their voice is heard, and their team has their back. We operate like a tight crew, not a revolving‑door company. Everyone knows each other, everyone pulls their weight, and everyone takes pride in the work we put our name on.

Why high‑quality carpenters choose client:

· Top‑market New England wages while living in a quieter, more affordable region

· A tight, family‑style team culture where people look out for each other

· Year‑round, steady work with leadership that supports the field

· Rural Vermont lifestyle - space, privacy, clean air, and a sane pace

· A craftsmanship‑first environment where quality is the standard, not the exception

Who we're looking for: Carpenters who take pride in their craft, show up ready, communicate well, and want to be part of a team that actually feels like a team. If you're the kind of person who cares about doing things right - not just getting them done - you'll fit in here.

If you want to live the Vermont lifestyle, earn at a competitive New England rate, and work with a crew that feels like family, let's talk.

What You'll Do:

Lead and coordinate large-scale construction, remodeling, and restoration projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to specifications.

Perform advanced carpentry tasks including trim, frame, metal stud framing, cabinet installation, door hanging, and siding with precision and efficiency.

Read and interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide project execution.

Execute specialized tasks such as concrete forming, rebar installation, masonry work, roofing, tile laying, plastering, stucco application, and water damage restoration.

Operate a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, CNC machinery, and fabrication equipment safely and effectively.

Manage heavy lifting activities and coordinate with team members to ensure safety protocols are followed during physically demanding tasks.

Oversee fixture installation, electrical experience applications (including wiring), plumbing tasks, drywall finishing, flooring installation, and metal fabrication as needed.

Conduct quality control inspections to maintain high craftsmanship standards; troubleshoot issues proactively; document project progress thoroughly.

Mentor junior team members by sharing expertise in construction estimating, schematics interpretation, mold remediation techniques, and restoration industry best practices.

Requirements

Extensive experience in construction estimating, blueprint reading, and project planning within the construction or restoration industry.

Master-level skills in carpentry disciplines such as trim carpentry, framing (including metal studs), cabinetry installation, door hanging, siding work, and roofing.

Proficiency with hand tools, power tools (including CNC machinery), scaffolding setup, heavy lifting equipment and safety procedures on active sites.

Demonstrated experience in complex construction tasks including concrete forming, rebar installation, masonry work, plastering/stucco application & water damage restoration.

Strong background in fabrication techniques involving metalwork or woodworking; familiarity with schematics for electrical or plumbing systems is a plus.

Knowledge of mold remediation processes; ability to handle restoration projects involving water damage or structural repairs efficiently.

Excellent communication skills for coordinating teams; ability to read technical drawings accurately; commitment to safety standards at all times.

Physical capability for demanding tasks such as heavy lifting; comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces as required by project scope. Join us if you're ready to leverage your mastery in construction to lead impactful projects! We value expertise that elevates our craftsmanship standards while fostering a safe and collaborative work environment. This paid position offers a rewarding opportunity for seasoned professionals eager to showcase their skills across diverse construction disciplines while mentoring others along the way.
