Job description

SA054 Junior Linux System Administrator
The Terrestrial Information Systems Lab at Goddard Space Flight Center is looking for a technician to join a team that manages approximately 1,000 servers running a mix of Ubuntu and CentOS. These systems form a compute and storage data center that manages nearly 100PB of Earth Science data which is used for many critical applications including global fire detection, water quality classifications, etc. A successful candidate would join a team of dedicated people responsible for ensuring that the systems remain functional to provide these applications to the public.
Required qualifications for a successful candidate include:
  • Basic hands-on experience around IT equipment including replacing components of a computer
  • An understanding to use basic technician maintenance tools (hand and power)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • An understanding on how to perform RMA on defective hardware
  • Willingness to learn outlined procedures and ability to expand on those procedures when necessary
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to independently identify hardware problems, apply critical thinking skills to gather information, take recommendation/advice, and implement a plan to address the problem
  • US Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 Investigation through NASA.

Desired qualification for a successful candidate include:
  • CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification would be beneficial.
