Job description

Samsung's Taylor, Texas semiconductor fabrication facility represents one of the largest and most advanced manufacturing investments in the United States, backed by an initial $17 billion commitment to build a cutting-edge chip production hub. The site is designed to become a cornerstone of Samsung's U.S. semiconductor strategy. As part of a long-term vision to expand U.S. chip production capacity, the Taylor facility positions top engineering talent at the center of a rapidly growing technology cluster with global impact.
Position Summary:
Samsung SDSA is seeking an associate level Linux Systems Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain high-availability Linux-based servers and appliances across our enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will drive upgrades, implement disaster-recovery solutions, and continually refine operational processes while providing hands-on support on a 24 x 7 x 365 basis.
Responsibilities:
  • Platform Management - Administer and optimize UNIX and Enterprise-Fedora Linux platforms (Red Hat, CentOS, Oracle Linux, Rocky, etc.).
  • Patch & Upgrade Lifecycle - Plan, test, and apply OS patches, upgrades, migrations, and virtualization initiatives.
  • Server Operations - Monitor, configure, troubleshoot, and enhance physical and virtual UNIX/Linux servers.
  • Environment Support - Assist with Production, Development, QA, Test, and Disaster-Recovery system installs and configurations.
  • Performance Monitoring - Operate monitoring tools to detect performance issues, respond to alerts, and manage change requests.
  • Asset Management - Track hardware and software assets; maintain accurate inventory records.
  • On-Call Duty - Provide 24 x 7 x 365 support for all assigned UNIX/Linux servers, both physical and virtual.

Requirements
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience administering Linux systems (or equivalent professional role).
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Hands-on work with bare-metal servers; familiarity with Dell PowerEdge and Oracle x86 hardware.
  • Proven experience operating in a 24 x 7 data-center environment.
  • Advanced troubleshooting including analysis of Linux system logs, diagnosing performance or reliability issues, and driving root-cause resolution.
  • Deep knowledge of Red Hat, Oracle Linux, CentOS, Rocky, and related ecosystems.
  • Strong Bash scripting skills for automation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to diagnose issues via Linux log analysis and system metrics.
  • Experience configuring storage at the OS level on Linux platforms.
  • Demonstrated success deploying Linux open-source applications in production.
  • Thrives in high-availability, fast-paced environments and responds effectively to urgent or after-hours support needs.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US for any employer without restrictions.
  • Must be willing and able to work full time onsite in Taylor, TX
Preferred Qualifications
  • UNIX Background - Experience as a UNIX Engineer or with other UNIX flavors.
  • Clustering Expertise - Hands-on work with Red Hat clustering (Pacemaker/Corosync) or comparable UNIX/Linux clustering technologies.
  • Oracle Exadata - Exposure to Oracle Exadata appliance management.
  • Education & Certifications - College degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent professional certifications (e.g., RHCE, RHCA, Linux+).
