Job Summary: 

The Surgery Service Line Coordinator is a clinical and operational leader responsible for the coordination, readiness, and continuous improvement of assigned surgical service lines within the Operating Room. This role ensures safe, efficient, higha'quality perioperative care by supporting surgeons, anesthesia, nursing staff, and interprofessional partners.

The Coordinator provides advanced clinical expertise, oversees specialtya'specific equipment and supplies, leads staff education, and ensures operational readiness for all procedures within the service line. This role requires strong critical thinking, a sense of urgency, accountability, and a commitment to Just Culture, transparency, positive communication, and team collaboration.

The Service Line Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between surgeons, vendors, OR leadership, and staff to ensure optimal workflow, equipment readiness, and patient outcomes.

Service Line Operations & Case Readiness

• Serves as the primary clinical and operational resource for assigned surgical specialties.
• Ensures all cases within the service line are fully prepared, including equipment, supplies, implants, and staffing.
• Coordinates daily OR assignments, ensuring appropriate staff skill mix and specialty coverage.
• Ensures specialtya'specific equipment is available, functional, and safe for use.
• Oversees specialty inventory, including tissue tracking and implant documentation.
• Maintains and updates surgeon preference cards with accuracy and urgency.
• Ensures readiness for scheduled, adda'on, and emergent cases.
• Provides reala'time support to the OR Manager regarding delays, conflicts, or operational issues.
• Ensures specialtya'specific policies, procedures, and workflows are current and evidencea'based.

Surgeon Relationship Management

• Builds strong, professional relationships with surgeons in assigned service lines.
• Serves as the primary point of contact for surgeon needs, concerns, and workflow optimization.
• Ensures surgeon preferences, equipment needs, and case requirements are met consistently.
• Communicates proactively with surgeons regarding case readiness, delays, or issues.

Education, Training & Staff Development

• Participates in orientation, education, and competency development for OR staff.
• Teaches specialtya'specific procedures, equipment, and clinical reasoning.
• Coaches colleagues through complex procedures and equipment use.
• Supports ongoing staff development and contributes to annual evaluations for specialtya'assigned staff.
• Ensures staff are trained on new equipment, procedures, and technologies.
• Collaborates with the OR Educator to develop specialtya'specific education plans.

Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensures compliance with AORN standards, Joint Commission requirements, and hospital policies.
• Promotes a culture of safety through peera'toa'peer accountability and reporting of near misses.
• Implements infection prevention measures and maintains a safe, confidential environment.
• Accurately documents care, charges, implants, and intraoperative data per hospital policy.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and Value Analysis Team meetings.
• Supports audits, safety checks, and specialtya'specific quality metrics.
• Ensures specialtya'specific equipment is maintained, inspected, and safe for use.

Equipment, Technology & Vendor Management

• Demonstrates proficiency in setting up and troubleshooting OR equipment, including electrocautery, bipolar devices, drills, video systems, lasers, microscopes, headlights, OR tables, robotic systems, and positioning devices.
• Ensures specialtya'specific equipment is available, functional, and properly maintained.
• Collaborates with the Equipment & Supply Supervisor on specialtya'specific needs.
• Coordinates vendor access, schedules representatives, and ensures compliance with hospital policies.
• Evaluates new products and technologies for safety, effectiveness, and cost.

Operational Efficiency & Resource Management

• Supports efficient OR flow by anticipating needs, communicating proactively, and minimizing delays.
• Provides input on capital and operational budget needs for assigned specialties.
• Identifies costa'saving opportunities and evaluates new products.
• Ensures accurate supply and implant charges.
• Participates in operational planning for new procedures, technologies, and service line expansion.
• Manages time effectively, minimizes incidental overtime, and prioritizes daily tasks.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills         

• Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required.

Work Experience:      

• Required to have worked within the specialty for a minimum of two years.

            Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

• Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
