Responsibilities

Summary:
The Library Technician performs overall daily maintenance of the library to include ordering, cataloging, classifying, circulation, and maintaining all library periodicals, books, and materials.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Library Technician maintains and organizes the circulation of library materials.
  • Promotes Library Resource Center activities.
  • Provides access to Reentry materials.
  • Tracks inmate use of library resources.
  • Assists in the directing and training of inmate library aides.
  • The Library Technician assists in the selection of library books, periodicals and materials for purchase.
  • Conducts library inventories. Prepares, maintains and reports appropriate records pertaining to circulation, inventory, newspapers and magazines.
  • The Library Technician may assist in conducting library orientation for classes in coordination with instructors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Associate's degree in library services or related professional office support certification from an accredited Post-Secondary College preferred.
  • One (1) year verifiable work experience and/or training in the operation and maintenance of a small institutional library preferred.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
  • Must be able to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
