Job description
Role:
The Part Time Library Assistant assists with the evening and weekend operations of Thomas F. Saffell Library. Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service to library users, maintaining, and demonstrating skills and knowledge of library resources and technology to students.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Assists students, staff, faculty, and community members in library services.
- Perform duties associated with circulation and shelving of library materials.
- Responsible for the oversight and closing of the library building.
- Preform other duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
- Exercise sound judgment in maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and service.
- Demonstrate effective communication, especially when instructing students.
- Develop knowledge of library resources in academic and vocational areas.
- Effectively interpret and enact rules and procedures of the library and the college.
Knowledge and Skills:
Education: Associates Degree Preferred.
Experience: Must have general knowledge of Library practices. Experience with Library Management Systems, including catalog functions, searching, checking in-out, etc., preferred. Operation of electronic databases; general computer office programs. Possess strong customer service skills. Proficient in Microsoft Suites.
Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Other Skills: Knowledge of how to conduct research within the library and skills in sharing that knowledge with students.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
