What We Are Looking For
SIRE is seeking a safety and detail-oriented individual to support our team as a Safety Manager. The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive Safety Programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a robust safety culture. This role leads risk reduction initiatives, manages Process Safety Management (PSM) protocols for highly hazardous chemicals, and collaborates with leadership to maintain safe, responsible operations.
This position works closely with other departments to ensure SIRE continues to operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties
1. Hazard Communication & SDS Management: Oversee the digital and physical Safety Data Sheet (SDS) library. Ensure all chemicals are properly cataloged, indexed, and accessible per OSHA GHS standards. Manage the transition from paper to digital SDS management systems where applicable.
2. Process Safety & Compliance: Direct the implementation of PSM elements, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
3. Data Integrity & Retention: Manage comprehensive safety databases. Establish and maintain rigorous data retention protocols for medical records, training logs, and inspection reports to ensure long-term audit readiness.
4. Advanced Technical Skills: Highly technology savvy with a strong command of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically advanced Excel (data analysis, pivot tables, and safety KPI tracking) and safety management software.
5. Regulatory Oversight: Maintain strict OSHA compliance, including CFR 1910 General Industry Standards, recordkeeping, reporting, and regulatory inspections.
6. Incident Management: Investigate accidents and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions; manage employee injuries and return-to-work programs.
7. Hazard Mitigation: Proactively identify hazardous situations and implement engineering or administrative controls to mitigate risk.
8. Leadership & Training: Lead the Safety Committee, facilitate specialized safety training (including GHS/SDS training), and manage the safety on-boarding process for all new hires.
9. Field Presence: Conduct frequent safety inspections and audits; monitor the implementation of contractor safety protocols.
10. Logistics & Equipment: Oversee the SIRE Safety Program, manage specialized uniform programs, and ensure the availability of all PPE.
11. Safe Work Permitting & Control of Hazardous Energy: Lead, facilitate, and continuously improve the site Safe Work Permit program. Issue and authorize permits including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hot Work, and Confined Space Entry. Conduct field walk-downs of job scopes to evaluate hazards, verify isolation points, confirm controls, and ensure all safety requirements are in place prior to work execution. Provide real-time oversight to ensure compliance with permit conditions and OSHA regulations.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years in a Safety role within a Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience: 2+ years exposure to managing PSM functions.
  • Education/Certification: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Railroad safety standards is a plus.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to climb ladders, walk frequently, and wear a respirator as required.
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional report writing, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex safety data to leadership.
  • Ability to work well with others and the ability to work independently
