As a paraprofessional member of our library team, you'll be a go-to face for the public - helping patrons discover services, materials, and resources, while supporting programs, collections, and day-to-day operations that keep our library running smoothly.

This position is an on-call position, which may include working mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. The Yorba Linda Public Library is open Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 8:00 pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 am - 5 pm.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Library Assistant - Substitute, you will:
  • Deliver excellent customer service - reader's advisory, reference help, and hands-on guidance with library tools and technology.
  • Support programming like story times, tours, and instructional classes, plus special projects and community outreach.
  • Help maintain the collection and operate public and staff computers for research, reserves, and daily tasks.
  • Assists with collection maintenance in assigned areas.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related field. A Master's of Library and Information Science degree is highly desirable.
Experience
At least 6 months of experience working in a library.
Availability
This position is an on-call position, which may include working mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. The Yorba Linda Public Library is open Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 8:00 pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 am - 5 pm.
Physical Requirements
This position is active and requires frequent movement throughout the workday. Essential physical activities include:
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and stretching.
  • Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Pushing and pulling loaded book carts and other equipment.
  • Setting up and moving tables, chairs, and other furnishings for programs and community events.

Candidates must also be able to:
  • Read book labels, shelving guides, and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and members of the public.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PROCESS
Final candidates will be required to successfully complete:
  • Fingerprint-based background investigation
  • Pre-employment medical examination (for positions where applicable)

These examinations are conducted at the City's expense. Applicants are encouraged not to resign from their current employment until they have received a final written offer of employment.
