HOURS & SALARY: Variable hours as-needed, primarily looking for daytime availability (9am to 5 pm) with a hiring range of $18.54 - $23.18 per hour depending on experience.

Connect community., Laramie County Library System serves nearly 385,000 visitors each year through our Cheyenne library, two branch libraries, and a mobile library. Together, we help foster lifelong learning, inspire creativity, and strengthen community connections throughout Laramie County.


JOB SUMMARY

The Substitute Library Assistant provides patron service on an as-needed basis across library locations. This position is primarily intended to support short-notice daytime staffing needs, with occasional evening and weekend shifts as needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide courteous, efficient customer service to patrons at public service desks.

2. Support daily library operations by providing desk coverage, performing opening and closing duties, and assisting colleagues as needed. 

3. Apply library policies, procedures, and service standards consistently while maintaining patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law. 

4. Monitor patron behavior and respond appropriately in accordance with the Library Rules. 

5. Complete other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or equivalent.

Six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Availability to work daytime shifts between approximately 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and some evening and weekend shifts as needed.

Flexibility to accept shifts on short notice.

Working knowledge of standard computer software and library systems.

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Ability to work independently with attention to detail and good task prioritization.

Accurate data entry and filing skills.


PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Bilingual English/Spanish language skills. 

Experience working with people from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. 

Cash handling experience.

WORK SCHEDULE 

Work schedule will primarily be daytime shifts and may include weekend and evening hours. Anyone who works for the library must be willing to work anytime the library is open (9:00 am to 8:00 pm).


PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The essential duties and responsibilities of this job require the employee to move or manipulate moderately heavy equipment, boxes, carts, files, and stacks of material from one location to another.
