Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is one of the largest of Virginia's 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. Brightpoint Community College's mission is to provide quality educational opportunities that inspire student success and community vitality. It envisions a success story for every student.
Brightpoint Library is seeking to fill a Library Assistant position. Library Assistants, under the supervision of the Library Director, work directly with students, faculty and staff to provide information services. Assistants perform a combination of these duties: staff the in-person and virtual Information Desk; respond to patron queries that include use of library and other information resources; navigate common software platforms; troubleshoot computers and equipment; process interlibrary loans; assist with student orientation and engagement activities for the library; and assist with library promotional activities. Library Assistants may be assigned to the Chester Campus or Midlothian Campus; 20-29 hours per week; schedule may include day and/or evening hours.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in a highly technological and team-oriented environment. Both flexibility and ability to adapt to ongoing change. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check.
Additional Considerations
Experience in a library, museum, archive or bookstore. Experience using online resources such as e-books, databases, social media and streaming video. Familiarity with Google Suite, MS Office, Teams and Zoom.
