Job description

Position: Evening Library Technician

Status: Regular Full-time, Non-Exempt, 12-month

Department: Library

Reports to: Library Director

Salary: $21.00/hour

Description:

The Evening Library Technician provides customer service support to library patrons, supervision of student workers, and works to oversee key library services during the library’s evening hours. This role supports the educational mission of the College through work in areas of library operations including book processing, Inter-Library Loan and service desk operations. Specific duties below center on being a primary patron-facing contact for core library services in-person and through email during evening hours and work collaboratively with a small team to ensure consistent services and clear communication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary staff member during library evening hours of operation, typically until 10PM

  • Assist with supervision of student employees including schedule changes and daily tasks coordinating with Access Services Lead to ensure consistent oversight

  • Provides excellent patron service and assist with patron transactions at library front desk.

  • Assist students and other library patrons with basic information retrieval and computer needs.

  • Actively work through more advanced patron questions and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Use library software to manage Inter-library loan, copy cataloging, book processing and updates to print periodical collections

  • Assists with library circulation desk: this includes renewing overdue materials, administering fines, and lost materials charges.

  • Follow opening and closing procedures when on duty to ensure safety and security of patrons and staff

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Excellent organizational and office management skills, including the ability to multi-task.

  • Background in customer service, communications, or related area.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively work within a small team both in person and electronically using email, internal messaging, institutional software and phone systems.

  • Ability to interpret and communicate information to patrons effectively.

  • Strong working knowledge of computers and technology, ability to use office software and learn new applications as needed.

  • Library experience preferred.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Typical hours for position are approximately 1:30PM to 10PM, Sunday to Thursday during College semester, Monday to Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM during semester and summer breaks.

  • Reliable transportation.
