Supervisor: Library Director and Assistant Library Director
Grade: Senior Librarian
Civil Service: Exempt
Union: Library
Minimum professional qualifications: Master's Degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate school program accredited by the American Library Association
Summary : The Head of the Beverly Farms Branch Library works under the general direction of the Director and Assistant Director. This position is split between the Beverly Farms Library and the main library's Children's Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Responsible for professional and supervisory work in planning, implementing, and managing a comprehensive program of service for the Beverly Farms Branch Library. Keeps informed about issues, services, and innovations related to general library service. The work requires the exercise of considerable skill, initiative, and independent judgment.
  • Trains and supervises Branch Library personnel. Reviews work of Branch Library personnel. Assesses self, staff, departmental effectiveness and services on a regular basis through appropriate means necessary for provision of best service. Motivates and encourages personnel.
  • Schedules Branch Library staff. Build and sustain positive staff relationships, collaborate with Department Heads.
  • Responsible for providing reference services to assist patrons in a friendly and professional manner with their information needs.
  • Performs reader advisory tasks such as recommending Library materials to children, parents and teachers and prepares reading lists and bibliographies, in print, and digitally.
  • Plans, coordinates, and presents services, resources, and programs designed to interest adults, young adults and children. Conducts story hours and other programs in the Branch Library, designed to develop among children a love of reading and learning.
  • Oversees and contributes to selection and collection development for the Beverly Farms Library to ensure that the Beverly Farms Library's collection remains up to date and well rounded. Keeps track of ongoing expenditures for these collections.
  • Provides tours of the Branch Library and instruction in the use of the library resources to library patrons.
  • Performs all circulation desk duties.
  • Works closely with Farms Friends group and other Library supporters.
  • Coordinates and supervises Branch Library volunteer program.
  • Communicates effectively with the public.
  • Works closely with local schools.
  • Processes interlibrary loans. Keeps statistics on interlibrary loans.
  • Manages the branch's meeting rooms.
  • Manages the Farms branch social media accounts
  • Assists in monitoring the behavior and conduct of library patrons.
  • Supervises custodians' work in Branch Library. Sees to the maintenance and repair of building, grounds and equipment. Reports needed repairs to Library Director or Assistant Library Director.
  • Delivers high quality children's programs and services at the main library.
  • Maintain awareness of current library issues and trends; attend professional meetings, courses, and/or workshops to stay current with developments in the library field.
  • Other duties as assigned.
