EFFECTIVE DATE: July 2026
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
HOURS WORKED: 20-24 hours per week; M-F during regular library open hours.
This is a part-time, in-person staff position responsible for planning and managing library events, assisting with financial recordkeeping, and performing basic library tasks. As a vital part of a small team, the Library Assistant may also be assigned special projects that align with the individual's skills.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
This position reports to the Director of the Library.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
None
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
Works from an office at Crown College. Regular on-campus attendance to complete job duties is required. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, a personal computer and related software, a printer, a calculator, and copy machines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
  • Record, submit, and reconcile library expenses and revenue.
  • Order and receive shipments.
  • Assist with reference services.
  • Plan, implement, and assess library events, including semi-annual author events.
    • Communicate with potential authors for events.
    • Coordinate authors' travel, accommodations, and itinerary.
    • Prepare the physical space(s) on campus where the author will speak.
    • Work with other departments (academics, marketing, IT, events) to coordinate event details.
    • Plan other seasonal library events.
  • As time and training allow, assist with other basic library or office tasks.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Troubleshooting abilities
  • Basic bookkeeping skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Have hand and arm (or equivalent) dexterity adequate to allow for extensive data entry.
  • Talk and hear with enough proficiency to allow for communication with others by phone or in person.
  • Have adequate vision to accommodate frequent viewing of computer screens.
  • The ability to frequently lift 10 pounds and infrequently lift 30 pounds.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Eagerness and intellectual ability to learn ILS (Integrated Library System) technology
  • Strong relational skills
  • Agreement and personal alignment with the Crown College statement of faith and willingness to abide by the Crown College Community Covenant

PREFERRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters of Library & Information Science (M.L.I.S or MSLIS) degree
• Event planning experience
• Previous library experience
• Intermediate or advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams
