Summary
Operating Title UNH Library Communications Manager Long Classification Title Communication Information Specialist II Campus Location Durham Department UNH Library Administration Summary of Position
Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of the University Library, and with input from appropriate stakeholders, the Library Communications Specialist coordinates the library's strategy for documenting and communicating the library's value to key constituencies and advancing the library's brand and visibility. Through their efforts, the Library Communications Specialist will significantly strengthen the visibility of the library, ensure that the library's value is effectively communicated to students, faculty and broader community, and maintain modern and impactful programming and communication strategies that optimize engagement with key audiences.
Leads the Communication and Outreach program and participates (is a member of) the following programs: Human Resources, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Sustainability (IDEAS), and Leadership and Planning programs. Serves as Administrative Partner.

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience (in a professional setting, communicating value through writing, editing, designing and/or producing social media or other marketing materials (e.g. designing/developing dashboards, media, press releases, talking points, fact sheets and other materials).
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills and an ability to solve problems independently. Strong attention to detail. Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability and willingness to foster a healthy work environment;
  • A commitment to valuing diversity and a willingness to contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment;
  • Proficient computer skills and an ability to learn new computer software programs and platforms;
  • Comfortable working in a team-based environment and a proven ability and willingness to work independently and collaboratively;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse clientele of faculty, staff, students, and colleagues both internal and external to the University;
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and the ability to effectively reach a variety of constituencies and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, editing and social media skills. Graphic design experience, including familiarity with Canva, Visme, Pixelied, Adobe Creative or similar products.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and creative, with a familiarity with the contribution that library's make to student and faculty success and an ability to identify content that demonstrates the value of the UNH library.

Equivalent combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in role.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, media, journalism, higher education, communications or related field preferred.

Understanding of job specific processes, protocols and policies particularly as applied to academic research libraries
