40 hours per week

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

(Note: Must be flexible to accommodate schedule changes, maybe asked to work other times as needed.)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA library school with three years of public library experience and supervisory experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Develops objectives and key results forCirculation Services and clearly communicates SCPL’s philosophy of CirculationServices to staff and patrons
  • Manages Circulation Department staff,including hiring, scheduling, and training
  • Maintains the Circulation Manual andtrains staff systemwide on circulation policies and procedures
  • Communicates with vendors for librarycard orders, various monthly services, and circulation-related equipment andsoftware
  • Finds solutions to circulation problemsand assists staff systemwide with troubleshooting circulation issues
  • Investigates and implements newprocedures as needed
  • Maintains departmental statistics andmonthly reports
  • Substitutes in the Circulation departmentand at branches as needed
  • Stays informed of patron needs relatingto library card services through library patron interactions, reading currentjournals, and attending training opportunities to ensure consistent qualityservice for all patrons
  • Represents SCPL at conferences andevents related to Circulation and Library Card Services
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from anaccredited ALA library school
  • Thorough knowledge of professional libraryprinciples, procedures, materials and practices with three years of publiclibrary experience and supervisory experience
  • Experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS),particularly Polaris
  • Forward-thinking with a strong work ethic and theability to establish and meet deadlines, set and accomplish long-term goals,and facilitator communication among teams
  • Creative, organized and flexible with the abilityto exercise initiative and independent judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsand comfortable speaking in front of groups
  • Strong technology skills, including knowledge ofdigital devices and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly motivated to learn new skills and keepabreast of innovation in library services
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer serviceskills that display a positive attitude and cultural sensitivity with theability to engage with people from all backgrounds and age groups
