Job description

Library Clerk

Provides excellent customer service to library patrons and performs duties related to the circulation of library materials. Helps with, and at times coordinates, library programs and events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Primarily performs duties at the circulation desk. Greets patrons and assists with requests. Initiates exchange of information required in the lending of library materials. Checks in and checks out library materials.
  • Assists patrons to locate books and materials.
  • Assists patrons to locate and operate various types of equipment and machinery, such as copy machines, printers, computers, etc. Instructs in the operation of equipment and machinery.
  • Assists with library programs and services. Helps set up, coordinate, and supervise programs as assigned by the programming coordinator and library director.
  • Assists with all areas of library work, such as shelving, sorting, customer service, and library programs.
  • Assists with senior programming.

On occasion clerks may be asked to supervise specific events or library programs.

Qualifications: A love of libraries. High School graduate and some college preferred. Library experience preferred but not required. College students and working adults who are considering a future career in libraries are encouraged to apply.
