Job description

Description
The purpose of this position is to partner with teaching staff in the development of student literacy through the administration of the library; to provide specialized instruction to faculty and students; and to oversee the selection, organization, utilization and maintenance of library resources.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Implement practices and procedures established by School Administration and IB curriculum.
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate school library media program.
  • Manage and operate the Library Media Center.
  • Serve as Lead Staff Member in the Library Media Center, providing day to day direction to the School Library Aide.
  • Provide guidance in the selection and acquisition of instructional materials in varying formats and levels of difficulty.
  • Develop, update, and publicize the resources, services, and circulation policy of the Library Media Center.
  • Assist in planning and conducting professional learning activities to ensure professional growth of school system personnel.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the selection, use, and evaluation of new technologies to enhance instruction.
  • Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies by attending meetings given at the public library system, reading professional journals, attending workshops and conferences, previewing and testing new products, and taking course work.
  • Serve as point person between public library system and school administration, attending meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects, as directed by the school administration.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related subject matter preferred.
  • Two years experience in a library setting preferred
  • Experience with Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum preferred
  • Knowledge of current school library application and trends required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cultural competency skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with students and adults.
  • Self-starter, team player, multi-tasker, deadline oriented, organized and attention to detail.
  • Experience with technology in a variety of different formats is required.
  • Enthusiasm, patience and the ability to be flexible is critical to success in this position.
