Seasonal Parks Maintenance Laborers (Parks, Grounds, and Trails)

These are laborer positions needed seasonally by the Parks Maintenance Division of the Provo City Parks and Recreation Department.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Seasonal Provo City employees are eligible to contribute to individual retirement savings plans through the City (401k, 457, Roth IRA, and/or Traditional IRA) and receive these great benefits: a) free admission to the Peaks Ice Arena Public Skating; b) a free Provo City Library Card; and c) discounts from various local and national vendors.

What will I do?

  • Clean and maintain Provo City parks and grounds, Center Street, or trail maintenance.

  • Pick up debris and litter.

  • Empty various containers into trucks and receptacles.

  • Load, dump, and pack landscaping materials.

  • May operate trucks and empty truck loads as directed.

  • Maintain and clean restrooms.

  • Use hand and power tools.

  • Pull weeds, lay sod, plant flowers, and prune trees and shrubs.

  • Perform major landscaping duties, such as operating ride-on and walk-behind lawn mowers, string trimmers, edger's, sod cutters, aerators, fertilizer spreaders, tractors, and other equipment related to park and grounds maintenance.

  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.

  • Assist with irrigation repair and maintenance

  • Assist other crew members as needed/directed and perform other related duties as required.

What do I need to apply?

  • Any training or experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the work.

  • Applicant must have the following: physical strength and agility to perform the work, ability to follow directions and communicate with the public in a courteous manner, and a knowledge of the safe use of hand tools and equipment required by the position.

  • Hiring preference will be given to individuals 18 years of age or older.

  • Valid, lawful driver license may be required at time of appointment.

What are the hours and duration?

This is a seasonal laborer position in the Parks Maintenance Division that is expected to last March - November of 2026. Employees typically work 10-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. The supervisor will establish the final schedule, allowing flexibility to align with both business needs and the employee's availability. Weekend work schedules may be included.

What are the physical and environmental factors?

This work requires strenuous physical labor, walking, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 70 pounds), and exposure to adverse weather conditions, cleaning chemicals and some pesticides. Applicant must have the physical strength and agility to perform the work.

What is the selection process?

This is an open file posting. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted for any positions available at that time. They will remain on file for a minimum of 60 days. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
