Packer Profile/Media Center Paraeducator
Austin Public School District is seeking to hire a Library Media Center Paraeducator at Austin High School for the 2026-2027 school year. Under the direction of the Building Principal and guidance of the District Library Media Specialist, the Library Media Paraeducator facilitates students' education and supports curriculum by assisting in the operation of the media center. Assists students and staff with technology and media needs, including materials and equipment. Supervises various student activities. Catalogs, processes and maintains both print and non-print materials.
Assist in daily media center operations, including organizing the space to meet student needs in collaboration with the District Library Media Specialist. Foster and maintain an environment conducive to active learning, resource-based instruction, and staff collaboration. Enrich their knowledge of library policies, procedures, protocols, and enrichment by meeting regularly with the district library media specialist. Develop working knowledge of Austin Public Schools' Online Library Catalog and operate the computerized circulation system. Manage media center resources, assist with the automated catalog, and handle book inventory, including adding, removing, re-shelving, and checking in/out books. Monitor and maintain an inviting, orderly, and attractive media center prepare displays to help improve literacy for all. Assist in the process of weeding and recommending new acquisitions, in alignment with the development plan, to create a high-interest and engaging library. Report donations and purchases to the District Library Media Specialist. Perform minor repairs on books and materials, and organize major repairs, notifying the District Library and Media Specialist as needed. Organize and distribute building materials for classroom projects/activities Complete yearly inventory in the spring during the last two weeks while the library is no longer used by patrons Communicate overdue, lost, and damaged items to respective building and district staff in compliance with district fines and fees policies. Work with Tech Services to manage the AHS Tech Cafe, providing basic troubleshooting assistance for students and distributing and collecting student and spare devices. Completing tech tickets as needed in the Tech Cafe to communicate needs of student and loaner devices for Tech Services. Alert building admin and Tech Services when students report lost or missing devices. Direct students with stolen technology to file a report with the building SRO. Supervise and monitor students and activities at the direction of administration.
Salary/Benefits: Hourly starting rate of pay is $18.90 per hour. Other benefits according to the Para Educator Working Agreement are located within the Human Resource section of the Austin Public Schools website.
