Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our Library Department as a Library Aide. The purpose of this position is to provide customer service to library patrons by responding to inquiries and requests, assisting with technical needs, and providing information on library procedures and services. The library aide greets, directs, and assists patrons in person and via phone. Determines reading level and/or interest to assist in finding relevant materials; Checks library materials in and out. Inspects condition of materials. Verifies all items are scanned; Shelves, searches for, and locates materials utilizing Dewey Decimal system; Registers patrons and issues library cards; verifies residency; Provides instruction and assistance to patrons using reference resources and shared computer equipment; Performs data entry, maintains records, and collects fees; Assists with the maintenance of library collections; Assists with age-appropriate special programs and events. Prepares materials and event space for activities;

The library's operating hours at the start of this position will be:
Mon-Fri: 9:00 a.m. - 7: 00 p.m.
Sat: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sun: Closed
This is a part time position at 19 hours per week. The available shifts include mornings, afternoons, and evenings and requires rotating Saturdays. Please note that while shift flexibility is available, weekday shifts must start no later than 3 pm.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution and 1 year of customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Fluent speaking Spanish highly desired. Fingerprint Clearance Card required.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium: Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

Incumbents may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, hazardous materials such as chemicals, oils, and blood and other bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, exposure to the elements, travel across rough, uneven and rocky surfaces and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
