Job Summary:
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP is seeking a Legal Technologist to support and configure legal technology tools that enhance efficiency and client value. The role involves collaborating with attorneys, maintaining legal tech systems, and ensuring optimal usage of the tools while staying updated on emerging trends in legal technology.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Configure, customize, and maintain legal technology and genAI solutions (e.g. document and workflow automation systems, client collaboration portals and eDiscovery platforms).
โ€ข Design and build templates, forms, workflows, rule sets, and user interfaces in support of legal practice needs.
โ€ข Translate business and legal requirements into system configurations and workflows.
โ€ข Conduct testing and QA for platform updates, enhancements, or integrations.
โ€ข Provide technical support and troubleshooting for legal technology tools and systems.
โ€ข Serve as a system administrator or power user for key platforms, managing user permissions, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with vendors and IT as needed.
โ€ข Ensure ongoing maintenance, updates, and optimization of systems.
โ€ข Document configurations, standards, and change management processes.
โ€ข Collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to identify and address technological needs and challenges.
โ€ข Train users on use of tools and provide basic end-user support for "how to" questions.
โ€ข Stay informed of emerging trends in legal technology, automation, AI, and digital transformation.
โ€ข Proactively suggest improvements to processes and tools that support client delivery and internal efficiency.
โ€ข Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree โ€“ required
โ€ข 3โ€“5+ years of experience in a legal technologist, configuration engineer, legal operations, or legal IT role.
โ€ข Hands-on experience configuring at least two legal tech platforms (e.g., Relativity One, HighQ, eBrevia, Avvoka, Opus 2).
โ€ข Proficient with Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams.
โ€ข Basic to intermediate experience with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).
โ€ข Project management skills with ability to multi-task among multiple time-sensitive matters.
โ€ข Working knowledge of industry standard tools related to handling and processing ESI for document review and production.
โ€ข Ability to parse and edit industry standard load files associated with e-discovery and document review platforms.
โ€ข Strong technical skills including: Data mapping, form design, field logic, workflow and process automation, user interface configuration, testing and QA best practices.
โ€ข Candidate must be a self-starter and have excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
โ€ข Excellent ability to write product documentation, e.g., user stories, training materials, and/or release notes.
โ€ข Excellent verbal & written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
โ€ข Adapt well to changing priorities and maintain composure during stressful situations due to workload and/or deadlines.
โ€ข Ability to respond to situations as they arise with minimal supervision.
โ€ข Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability.
โ€ข Experience working both independently and in a team oriented, collaborative environment.
Preferred:
โ€ข Agile or Scrum certification is a plus.
โ€ข Familiarity with APIs, scripting, or low-code/no-code tools is a plus.
