Job description

About K1

K1 is one of the largest investors in small-cap AI-powered software. Dedicated to transforming lives and industries by building category leaders in technology, K1 has invested in over 275 companies since inception and has over $23 billion of assets under management.

Headquartered in Manhattan Beach, California, the firm partners early with founders and management teams to build AI-powered, mission-critical systems of record for enterprise clients globally.

About the Role

K1 is seeking a Legal Operations Analyst to join our growing legal operations team in Manhattan Beach, CA. The ideal Legal Operations Analyst will provide operational and technology support across the full range of K1’s deal execution, portfolio company governance and equity management, and fund administration activities. This role will require direct communication with K1's deal teams, portfolio company executives, outside counsel, and other third parties across the full investment lifecycle – gaining exposure to K1's investment thesis while preparing the documents that helps close deals and manage the equity and governance that supports management teams through exit.

This position will also help to build and refine the AI-powered tools and workflows that make this all possible – we are actively investing in legal technology and want someone who is curious about what comes next.

Our core values both define and distinguish us in our industry. As such, we believe in the importance of maintaining a team culture that aligns with our four core values: Passion, Persistence, Humility, and Excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equity & Governance: Prepare and manage equity grant documentation and corporate governance across the portfolio.
  • Contract Drafting & Review: Draft, review, and redline contracts including vendor agreements, amendments, engagement letters, and corporate governance documents.
  • Drive the Legal Tech Stack: Serve as the team’s power user for legal software and support the implementation and refinement of AI-powered legal tools and automated workflows for contract drafting, review, and governance.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements that maximize day-to-day productivity and reduce manual effort across the legal function. Build and maintain dashboards, trackers, and reporting tools.
  • Corporate Process Enrichment: Support entity management, corporate records, and post-closing integration tasks.
  • Operations & Administration: Manage accounts payable with law firms, vendors, and consultants through the eBilling platform.
  • Compliance & Audit Support: Assist in providing information and documentation for audit requests, regulatory filings, and compliance matters. Assist with special projects and cross-functional initiatives as directed by the legal team.

Required Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in a legal, financial services, or professional services environment (e.g., law firm, start up, financial sponsor, investment bank, accounting firm, or corporate legal department)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy – your work product goes to deal partners, portfolio company CEOs, and outside counsel, so it needs to be right
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort learning new software quickly
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines simultaneously
  • Sound judgment, high ethical standards, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • A positive, team-player attitude with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset—you see problems and fix them without being asked
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI tools, workflow automation, and/or legal technology innovation
  • Experience with corporate entity management, equity plan administration, or governance documentation
  • Exposure to M&A transactions, private equity operations, or SaaS company environment

Compensation & Benefits

As of the date of this posting, K1 Investment Management, LLC reasonably expects to pay $80,000 – $100,000 for the position of Legal Operations Analyst. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

K1 offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); unlimited time off; an electric vehicle stipend; daily catered lunches, and the opportunity to work alongside a high-performing team at one of the most active investors in enterprise software.
