Job description

Job Summary

This position’s responsibilities include timely and accurate daily administration of Long Term and Short-Term Disability claims, Workers’ Compensation claims, FMLA, and Leaves of Absences within the scope of Marion Health's policies as well as federal and state laws and regulations. Maintains files and tracking systems for Disability claims, FMLA, Leaves of Absences and Workers’ Compensation claims. Monitors required fit testing and flu vaccinations to ensure compliance with regulations and Marion Health policies. Assists with scheduling of respiratory fit testing, and OSHA compliance reporting. Works with the Employee Health RN Coordinator, Work Solutions and Workers’ Compensation carrier to ensure proper investigation and handling of employee injuries and Workers’ Compensation claims, as well as appropriate medical care for injured employees. Works with managers, providers and injured employees to make appropriate transitional duty assignments. Works with managers and employees to accurately capture payroll data for the time and attendance system. Monitors the MIDAS System and works with E-Clinical Works (eCW) and Agility in performance of Workers’ Compensation duties. Participates as an active member of the Environment of Care Committee and Infection Control Committee. Contributes to Human Resources’ projects and audits. Assists the Employee Relations Administrator in determining and communicating reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act.  Assists employees with questions regarding benefits and Human Resources’ policies and procedures.  Serves as the backup to the HR Assistant. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent and five (5) years’ experience in Human Resources and/or benefits administration or
  • Associates Degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline and two (2) years’ experience in Human Resources and/or benefits administration.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Work experience within a Healthcare setting.
  • Certification in one or more of the following:
    • PHR – Professional in Human Resources
    • SPHR – Senior Professional in Human Resources
    • SHRM-CP – Society of Human Resources Management – Certified Professional
    • SHRM-SCP – Society of Human Resources Management – Senior Certified Professional
    • CEBS – Certified Employee Benefits Specialist

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Professional knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to Human Resources’ practices and policies including, but not limited to, Family and Medical Leave Act, Workers Compensation laws and Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex benefit plans and Human Resources’ policy information.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, providers and other Marion Health personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolution to conflict.
  • Highly developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.

  • Ability to effectively perform job functions under periods of extreme stress, meeting deadlines and producing positive outcomes.
  • High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
