Job description

CAM CNC Engineer

Location: Benbrook, TX
Reports To: Factory Manager

Position Overview

The CAM Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs for milling and turning operations. This role ensures efficient and precise machining processes through effective tool path generation, tooling selection, and close collaboration with machinists, production, and design engineering teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain CNC programs for mills and lathes using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or Siemens NX).
  • Create accurate tool paths, setups, and machining strategies for both prototype and production parts.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds to achieve quality, efficiency, and tool life objectives.
  • Work with design engineers to ensure manufacturability of parts and suggest design improvements when necessary.
  • Simulate and verify tool paths to detect potential collisions or inefficiencies before machining.
  • Support machinists during machine setup, program prove-out, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain organized program libraries and documentation for all parts and processes.
  • Continuously improve machining processes by analyzing cycle times, tooling performance, and part quality.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance to ensure all parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.
  • Stay current with advances in CAM software, tooling, and machining technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience programming CNC mills and lathes using CAM software.
  • Strong understanding of G-code, machining principles, and CNC operations.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAD software and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in one or more CAM systems (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, Esprit, GibbsCAM, or NX).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work near machinery.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
