What is a learning systems analyst?

Learning Systems Analysts are professionals who evaluate, implement, and maintain educational technologies and learning management systems (LMS) within organizations or academic institutions. They analyze user needs, recommend suitable learning platforms, and ensure systems are optimized for effective teaching and learning. Their role often involves collaborating with educators, IT staff, and administrators to support digital learning initiatives and troubleshoot technical issues. Learning Systems Analysts also monitor system performance and may provide training to users on new technologies.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a learning systems analyst?

To thrive as a Learning Systems Analyst, you need a strong background in instructional technology, data analysis, and learning management systems (LMS), often supported by a relevant degree such as instructional design, education, or information technology. Familiarity with platforms like Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle, as well as certifications in LMS administration or e-learning tools, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you bridge technical and educational needs. These skills ensure efficient implementation and support of learning technologies, leading to improved user experiences and learning outcomes.

How does a learning systems analyst typically collaborate with instructional designers and IT teams to implement new e-learning technologies?
