Job Title: Onboarding and Development Mentor

Reports to: Training Manager

FLSA Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Onboarding & Mentorship

  • Facilitate and support onboarding sessions in collaboration with the Training Manager and HR.
  • Provide individualized and group mentoring to new and current direct care staff.
  • Guide staff through practical application of skills learned in classroom or virtual settings.
  • Role-model expected practices, agency policies, documentation standards, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Track new hire progress; notify supervisors of training deadlines or concerns.
  • Assist with presenting core onboarding content and agency values.

Staff Development & Coaching

  • Observe and support staff during real-time work activities to reinforce training and quality standards.
  • Offer feedback, encouragement, and redirection in a respectful, supportive manner.
  • Document mentoring sessions and provide updates to the Training Manager regarding staff strengths, challenges, and growth areas.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Attend and apply relevant conferences, workshops, or seminars to enhance development practices.

Training & Coordination Support

  • Assist with scheduling and preparing in-person and virtual training sessions.
  • Set up materials, technology, registration, and follow-up communications.
  • Coordinate logistics for external trainers, certifications, and continuing education.
  • Support facilitation of refresher courses and agency-wide trainings as needed.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Provide professional, timely communication with supervisors and team members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold agency standards in all interactions.

Additional Expectations:

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Operates in both professional office environments and program/residential settings.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to operate office equipment and technology.
  • May be required to assist with physical demonstrations or modeling support techniques (up to 75 lbs).
  • Must be able to travel independently between sites.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associateโ€™s degree in education, human services, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a training, administrative, or support role.
  • Experience in human services or working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills
  • Ability to model professional conduct and provide respectful, clear feedback to diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and mentoring best practices.
  • Comfortable with technology and data entry; familiarity with Microsoft Office and LMS platforms preferred.
  • Ability to pass required background checks, including Adult/Child Protective Services, criminal history, OIG Exclusion list, National Sex Offender Registry, Bureau of Motor Vehicles record, and Maine CNA Registry.
