Description
This position requires a combination of floor coaching and personal training. A separate description of duties is below. Wage range: $20 to $24 hourly.
The candidate must have a Personal Fitness Trainer certification or be certified within 90 days of hire with a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ACE, NASM) or through the YMCA of the USA courses. We are willing to train candidates new to fitness training.
Reports to the Health and Wellness Director
Floor Coaching (20%): Promotes and maintains an environment that will provide a positive and safe experience for members in the fitness areas daily.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Member and Participant Relationship Building
  • Provide facility/department tours.
  • Schedule and lead fitness orientations for new members.
  • Assist members in learning the proper use of cardio and strength equipment.
  • Provide orientations for the FitKids program.
  • Show a sincere interest in the members and guests.
  • Handle members' complaints and concerns quickly and effectively.
  • Organizational Duties
  • Maintain the overall cleanliness/neatness of the fitness room and track (including picking up loose equipment/debris, refilling wipe/towel dispensers, etc.)
  • Uphold YMCA rules/policies and ensure members are abiding by them.

Safety Duties
  • Oversee and ensure safety in the fitness center and track.
  • Check equipment for proper working conditions, and if unable to fix something, report it to the Health & Wellness Director.

Personal Training (80%): (when certified aiming for certification within 3 months of hire) Provides personalized health and well-being services to members which include the opportunity for a health assessment; recommendations on safe and effective physical activity; and education related to a variety of health and wellness issues such as basic nutrition, stress management, safety, and weight management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Member and Participant Relationship Building
  • Schedule and provide consultations for prospective clients.
  • Help sell members, non-members, and guests training packages on an ongoing basis, as well as re-enroll existing clients.
  • Create individualized health and fitness programs for members.
  • Specialize in an area of training (e.g., special populations or weight management).

Organizational Duties
  • Keep certification and training current.
  • Follow team protocols, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings.
  • Assist with special promotions and events.
  • As developed, revenue goals will be determined.

Safety Duties
  • Conduct safe and effective personal training sessions for one-on-one or duet.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Required Certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, Personal Trainer Certification/YMCA of the USA Training, MRTQ Health & Safety Orientation Training
  • Must have great communication skills
  • Must have excellent customer service skills

Physical Demands:
  • The employee is required to work in the fitness center and orient members on equipment by demonstrating appropriate and correct techniques.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 lbs.
  • Must have the physical ability to respond in an emergency.
