Job Description Summary:
The Senior Director, Learning Content oversees the development of the curricula for the CFA program, CIPM, and the Certificate in ESG Investing. The role develops short and long-term plans and leads a team of Curriculum directors responsible for content creation. The role closely collaborates with a wide range of internal partners, including Practice Analysis, Certificate Content Directors, Learning Strategy & Design, Exam Development, Global Partnerships & Client Solutions (GP&CS), and Research, Advocacy, & Standards, to ensure project alignment, appropriate resource allocation, and effective planning.
The role will engage external partners, including Curriculum Level Advisers and external authors, in contributing to curricula developments, and supports GP&CS outreach efforts with employers and universities to represent the interests of CFA Institute. This role brings expertise and leadership in combining practice, pedagogy, and appropriate technology to structure topics in investment management to be engaging and effective for adult learners.
The position may be based in Charlottesville VA, New York NY, or London and will report to the Senior Head, Learning Content.
Job Description:
Essential Functions
  • Lead the team responsible for the development of CFA Program, CIPM, and Certificate in ESG Investing learning content.
  • Select, manage, evaluate, and guide both internal and external contributors including staff and outside authors, reviewers, question writers, and other content developers.
  • Serve a senior editorial role, both writing and rewriting learning content, and lead the process of content creation.
  • Ensure alignment of CFA Institute program content with the Candidate Body of Knowledge, outputs from the Education Advisory Committee, and findings from the Practice Analysis team.
  • Develop a rolling 3-year plan for Curriculum that ensures alignment of the curricula with the CBOK, and integrates with development plans for certificates, and a longer-term content development wish list based on Practice Analysis input and emerging competencies.
  • Develop detailed content development plans for the next 12 months, assessing and ensuring resourcing and production capacity.
  • Support and collaborate with research efforts relating to Practice Analysis and support outreach activities and client engagement.
  • Collaborate with other teams supporting qualifications and certificates to ensure effective resource allocation across the Learning Content department.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in finance or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years of professional investment industry experience, including demonstrated competence leading teams. A combination of academic experience coupled with practical hands-on industry experience preferred.
  • CFA charter
  • Previous experience in instructional design preferred.
  • Experience as an educator preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate a vision and strategy into robust execution plans.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to build relationships and establish trust.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and experience working with external constituencies (vendors, volunteers, community organizations). Must be able to interact professionally and diplomatically with senior industry professionals.
  • Must be self-directed, demonstrate a high level of initiative, able to work independently, demonstrate an impressive work ethic, have a strong personal presentation, and anticipate needs of the business.
  • Must possess excellent analytical skills and problem-solving skills needed to gather data, delineate problems, explore options, and develop solutions.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment, strong business acumen, discretion, and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

  • Expected travel is 10-20% of the time.

CFA Institute salary ranges will vary by geographical location. This role is being posted internationally and does not have to be performed in New York City. In compliance with the New York City salary disclosure law, the anticipated base salary for this role in New York City will range between $135,000 and $225,000. Salaries are determined based on candidate's relevant experience and skills, as well as internal equity.
