Summary or Purpose
The purpose of this is to create a pathway for college, vocational or trade school immersed students to access a more structured program that would enhance their skills in alignment with their academic pursuits. Our goal is to help students build practical skills, explore career pathways, and prepare for long-term employment and leadership opportunities within the North Slope Borough as experienced employees retire and pass on their knowledge.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Essential duties and Responsibilities of this position will be determined by each hiring manager that participates in this program. It is expected that duties and responsibilities will reflect the academic pursuit of the individual intern.
Assist with hands on projects, research, technical tasks, or operational support relevant to your area of study.
Supporting department staff with daily operations, planning or fieldwork.
Learning workplace safety standards, professional expectations, and job specific skills.
Participating in training, mentorship and skill development opportunities.
Maintain confidentiality of clients, work-related issues, personnel records, and Borough information.
May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule including holidays and weekends.
May be required to travel.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
High School graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Enrollment in higher education or a training program such as a college, vocational, technical, apprenticeship or trade school program.
Ability to pass FBI fingerprint background check within 60 days of hire. (Police only)
HEALTH DEPARTMENT ONLY
Applicant must pass a criminal history background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit (If applicable).
Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
