What are Lead Solution Architects?

Lead Solution Architects are senior IT professionals responsible for designing and overseeing complex technology solutions that align with an organization's business objectives. They work closely with stakeholders to assess requirements, develop architectural blueprints, and ensure that the proposed solutions integrate seamlessly with existing systems. In addition to technical expertise, Lead Solution Architects provide leadership to technical teams, guide project implementation, and ensure that solutions meet performance, security, and scalability standards.

How does a Lead Solution Architect typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during large-scale projects?

As a Lead Solution Architect, you play a central role in bridging the gap between business stakeholders, development teams, and IT operations. You'll frequently facilitate workshops with product managers, developers, and security experts to ensure architectural solutions align with business goals and technical constraints. Regular communication and documentation are key, as you'll need to validate that all teams understand the solution blueprint, address integration challenges, and resolve any technical roadblocks. Your leadership ensures a cohesive approach to project delivery and fosters a collaborative environment for innovation and problem-solving.

To thrive as a Lead Solution Architect, you need deep expertise in systems architecture, software design principles, and requirements analysis, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. By Joining Citi, you will become part of a global organisation whose mission is to serve as a trusted partner to our clients by responsibly providing financial services that enable growth and economic progress.
Team/Role Overview
The Finance Technology Transformation program is focused on migrating existing Citi-coded platforms to Oracle SaaS, impacting accounting engines, end-to-end data flow from Front Office to BA AR, Ledger Balances, and enterprise downstream consumption.
The Lead Solution Architect will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of end-to-end architectural solutions for specific domains within this program. This role will translate strategic architectural direction into detailed designs, guide development teams, and ensure technical solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements. The Lead Solution Architect will report to the Principal Solution Architect and may lead a small team of Senior Solution Architects.
What you'll do
  • Lead the design of comprehensive architectural solutions for assigned areas of the Finance Technology transformation, such as accounting engines migration, specific data pipelines (Front Office to BA AR, Ledger Balances to downstream), or reconciliation frameworks.
  • Develop detailed architectural blueprints, including system integration patterns (e.g., APIs, ETL via ADTS, Pub/Sub), data models, security frameworks (e.g., layered security model, TLS 1.2 encryption), and infrastructure considerations (e.g., FastConnect).
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of Oracle SaaS modules (e.g., GL, AFCS, ARCS, FCCS) to design optimal configurations and ensure effective integration within the broader architecture.
  • Design strategies for integrating with and ultimately deprecating legacy systems, ensuring minimal impact to upstream and downstream applications during the migration phases.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Senior Solution Architects and collaborate closely with engineering leads, product managers, and other architects to ensure architectural alignment and successful project delivery.
  • Work with various stakeholder groups to gather requirements, resolve technical impediments, and communicate architectural decisions effectively.
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of high-quality architectural documentation, including design specifications, decision logs, and best practice guides.
What we'll need from you
This role requires a highly experienced architect with a proven track record in leading complex financial technology transformations. The essential qualifications and skills required include:
  • Expertise in designing and implementing end-to-end architectural solutions for large-scale enterprise programs.
  • Strong ability to develop detailed architectural blueprints, encompassing system integration patterns, data models, security frameworks, and infrastructure considerations.
  • Deep knowledge and practical experience with Oracle SaaS modules (GL, AFCS, ARCS, FCCS) and their optimal configuration and integration.
  • Proficiency in designing strategies for legacy system integration and deprecation with minimal business impact.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in mentoring architectural teams and fostering collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex architectural concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Commitment to maintaining high-quality architectural documentation and adhering to best practices and standards.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years relevant experience in Solutions Architecture with true end to end business processes hands on experience
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to develop working relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
