What is a lead solution architect?

Lead Solution Architects are senior IT professionals responsible for designing and overseeing complex technology solutions that align with an organization's business objectives. They work closely with stakeholders to assess requirements, develop architectural blueprints, and ensure that the proposed solutions integrate seamlessly with existing systems. In addition to technical expertise, Lead Solution Architects provide leadership to technical teams, guide project implementation, and ensure that solutions meet performance, security, and scalability standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lead solution architect?

To thrive as a Lead Solution Architect, you need deep expertise in systems architecture, software design principles, and requirements analysis, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency in cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), enterprise architecture frameworks (like TOGAF), and modeling tools is essential, with relevant certifications often preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with stakeholders and guide development teams. Regular communication and documentation are key, as you'll need to validate that all teams understand the solution blueprint, address integration challenges, and resolve any technical roadblocks. Your leadership ensures a cohesive approach to project delivery and fosters a collaborative environment for innovation and problem-solving.

Job description

Your Job
KBX Logistics is looking for a Lead Solution Architect (Data & AI) to lead solution architecture for our Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) and help evolve it into an AI-enabled data platform. This is a hands-on role for someone who brings deep AWS solution architecture expertise and can evaluate, design, and implement AI capabilities that improve how users interact with enterprise data.
You'll bring deep AWS solution architecture expertise and a builder's mindset, with the ability to evaluate, architect, and deliver emerging AI capabilities over enterprise data. Prior hands-on AI implementation experience is valuable, but we recognize that AI technologies continue to evolve rapidly and are looking for someone who can help shape KBX's long-term AI architecture strategy while growing with the space.
Our Team
The KBX DataOps team builds and supports enterprise data capabilities housed in AWS that help business teams access trusted data, improve decision-making, and scale analytics. We partner across business, technology, governance, cloud, and security teams to deliver reliable data products and modern platform capabilities.
What You Will Do
  • Design and evolve the architecture of the Enterprise Data Platform, including the integration patterns, governance controls, and platform capabilities required to support analytics, automation, AI, and agent-based use cases.
  • Lead solution architecture and hands-on delivery of scalable data platform capabilities, including self-service access patterns, APIs, data products, metadata services, and AI-enabled experiences.
  • Translate business, data, and AI opportunities into production-ready architecture patterns that balance scalability, security, maintainability, and speed to value.
  • Build foundational platform capabilities including metadata management, semantic models, orchestration frameworks, secure access patterns, observability, and governance services that enable analytics, automation, and AI workloads.
  • Serve as the hands-on architectural lead for the team's AWS-native platform architecture, owning design decisions and directly contributing to implementation
  • Continuously modernize data pipelines to reduce redundancy, control cost, and improve reliability and observability.
  • Codify reusable architecture patterns (Terraform) and mentor data engineers to scale successful patterns across initiatives/projects.
  • Serve as the solution architecture contributor in architecture review processes

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Experience evaluating, designing, maintaining, or implementing AI/GenAI capabilities within enterprise data and technology environments.
  • Experience designing solutions using AWS technologies such as Glue, S3, Redshift, Lambda, Step Functions, and IAM roles and policies.
  • Exposure to applying GenAI/LLM patterns over enterprise data
  • Experience applying the following fundamentals as a solution architect: RBAC, data lineage, DR/HA, modular design, cost optimization.
  • Experience influencing architecture and architectural strategy across the organization at various levels

What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience implementing Model Context Protocol (MCP) or comparable AI-to-data integration patterns.
  • Experience building enterprise AI solutions using LLMs, copilots, agents, or retrieval-based architectures.
  • Experience designing AI infrastructure on AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Experience developing AI governance, security, and operating patterns.
  • Experience building semantic, metadata, or orchestration layers that enable AI-based data access.
  • Experience evaluating emerging AI technologies and translating them into scalable enterprise architecture patterns.
  • Experience designing layered data architectures across cloud platforms, including immutable raw-data retention, standardized transformation layers, and curated analytics or semantic-serving layers.
  • Experience partnering with IT Security teams on IAM and secure data access pattern initiatives
  • Experience mentoring data engineers and establishing reusable architecture standards/patterns that scale across teams
