How much do laser tracker jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for laser tracker in the United States is $24.40, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.47 and $28.37 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working as a Laser Tracker?

As a Laser Tracker, your daily responsibilities often include setting up and calibrating laser tracking equipment, performing precision measurements on assemblies or structures, and recording and analyzing dimensional data. You may also interpret blueprints or engineering drawings, generate detailed reports, and work closely with engineers or project managers to address any measurement discrepancies. The role involves both field and shop-floor work, requiring adaptability and a commitment to quality and safety standards. Collaboration with other technical staff is common, providing opportunities to expand your skills and grow within the field of industrial metrology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Laser Tracker position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Laser Tracker, you need a solid understanding of metrology, precision measurement, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), often supported by relevant technical training or associate's degree. Familiarity with laser tracking equipment (such as Leica or FARO), CAD software, and metrology data management systems is usually required, as is OSHA safety training. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and strong communication skills are vital for collaborating with engineers and clients. These competencies ensure accurate measurements, reliable data collection, and smooth integration with production or construction teams.

What is a Laser Tracker job?

A Laser Tracker job involves using precision laser measurement equipment to inspect, align, and verify large-scale components in industries like aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing. Laser Tracker operators or technicians set up and operate these high-accuracy devices to ensure parts meet strict specifications. They interpret data, create reports, and often collaborate with engineers to improve manufacturing processes. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and experience with 3D measurement software are essential for this role.
