Position Description
Retail Associate Job Description:
Customer Service & Sales
    • Greet customers and assess their landscaping or gardening needs
    • Recommend plants, trees, shrubs, mulch, rock, and other materials
    • Provide basic plant care and maintenance guidance
    • Upsell complementary items (fertilizer, edging, tools, soil amendments)
    • Handle customer concerns or complaints professionally

Point-of-Sale & Transactions
    • Operate cash register and POS system
    • Open and close registers
    • Balance drawer at end of shift

Yard & Inventory Support
    • Assist with loading mulch, rock, soil, and plants
    • Restock shelves and plant displays
    • Water and maintain plant inventory
    • Rotate inventory to ensure plant health and product freshness

Product Knowledge & Plant Care
    • Maintain knowledge of seasonal plant varieties
    • Identify common plant issues (overwatering, pests, disease)
    • Understand material coverage rates (yards of mulch, tons of rock, etc.)

Store Appearance & Maintenance
    • Keep retail area clean and organized
    • Maintain signage and pricing accuracy
    • Ensure plants are watered, deadheaded, and properly labeled

Safety & Equipment
    • Follow safe lifting procedures
    • Operate forklifts or skid loaders (if certified)
    • Use proper PPE when loading materials
    • Maintain safe customer traffic flow in yard areas

Administrative & Team Support
