Overview

The Laboratory Assistant (LA) at New York Medical College (NYMC) will be an integral member of the laboratory environment supporting medical research in important areas of focus including cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, kidney disease, the neurosciences, disaster medicine, and vaccine development. This position may involve various responsibilities including but not limited to assisting with the design and performance of experiments, documenting results, maintaining laboratory equipment and stock, and ensuring laboratory organization. The level of independence and supervision may vary based on the lab's focus, the candidate's experience, ability to multitask among other factors. The specific duties for the lab environment are highlighted below.

NYMC is seeking a LA for the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy in El Ouaamari laboratory. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the lab workflow so that research activities meet deadlines, under the supervision of the PI. The LA provides lab administrative support. He/she performs day-to-day lab management including initiating the purchase of equipment and laboratory supplies, maintaining reagent stocks and equipment, organizing lab meetings, enforcing lab safety guidelines and providing administrative support for compliance with regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, maintain equipment or specific lab resources.
  • Perform experiments under the direction of senior lab personnel.
  • Record and analyze data
  • Assist in training students in laboratory techniques and equipment operation
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Education requirement:

    • Qualified candidates must hold Bachelor's  in science or a combination of education in a related field and experience. Masters, preferred

    Prior experience:

    • 4 years of hands-on experience in the research laboratory setting, preferred.

    • Highly motivated and a strong team player with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
