How much do l&d cna jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for l&d cna in the United States is $46.36, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.43 and $60.58 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What type of CNA gets paid the most?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with specialized skills, such as those working in long-term care, hospice, or with additional certifications like medication aide, tend to earn higher wages. Experience, geographic location, and working in high-demand healthcare settings also contribute to higher pay for CNAs.

What is an L&D CNA job?

An L&D CNA (Labor and Delivery Certified Nursing Assistant) supports nurses and doctors in the labor and delivery unit of a hospital or birthing center. They assist with patient comfort, transport, stocking supplies, and basic care such as taking vital signs. They also help new mothers with mobility and hygiene post-delivery. Their role is essential in ensuring a smooth and supportive birthing experience.

Is there a CNA for labor and delivery?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) can work in labor and delivery units, providing basic patient care to mothers and newborns under the supervision of nurses and doctors. While CNAs are not specialized in obstetrics, they may assist with routine tasks such as monitoring vital signs and helping patients with daily needs in maternity wards. Additional certifications or training in obstetrics may be required for more advanced roles in labor and delivery settings.

What do CNAs do in L&D?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in labor and delivery (L&D) assist with patient care by monitoring vital signs, supporting mothers during labor, and helping with basic needs. They work under the supervision of nurses and healthcare providers, often using medical equipment and maintaining patient comfort and safety during childbirth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the L&D Cna position, and why are they important?

To excel as an L&D CNA (Labor and Delivery Certified Nursing Assistant), you need basic patient care skills including monitoring vital signs, assisting with hygiene, and supporting mothers during labor, all supported by CNA certification and BLS/CPR credentials. Familiarity with hospital systems like electronic medical records (EMR) and experience using patient monitoring devices are often required. Compassion, effective communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are important soft skills for this role. These capabilities ensure L&D CNAs provide safe, supportive care to mothers and infants while working efficiently within the larger healthcare team.

Can you work in L&D as a CNA?

A CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) typically works in direct patient care and healthcare settings, not in Learning and Development (L&D) roles. While CNAs develop skills in communication and caregiving, working in L&D usually requires additional training or qualifications related to education, training, or healthcare management. Transitioning from CNA to L&D roles may involve gaining experience or certifications in training or instructional design.

What are some typical responsibilities for an L&D CNA during a shift?

As an L&D CNA, your primary responsibilities include assisting nurses and physicians with patient care, helping expectant mothers with comfort measures, maintaining cleanliness in patient and delivery rooms, and recording vital signs. You may also support postpartum care, help transport patients, and prepare medical equipment for procedures. Teamwork is essential, as you'll collaborate closely with RNs, doctors, and other support staff throughout fast-paced shifts. These tasks are critical in ensuring a smooth process for both staff and patients during labor and delivery.
