What is a junior software engineer in test?

Junior Software Engineers In Test are entry-level professionals who focus on ensuring the quality and reliability of software applications. They write and execute test cases, identify bugs, and collaborate with developers to resolve issues. Their responsibilities often include developing automated tests, maintaining testing frameworks, and reporting on test results. This role provides a foundation in both software development and quality assurance practices, making it an excellent starting point for a career in software engineering or testing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior software engineer in test?

To thrive as a Junior Software Engineer In Test, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, basic knowledge of software testing methodologies, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. • Document frameworks, processes, standards, and operational runbooks.
  • Mentor engineers on test automation best practices and quality engineering principles.
  • Collaborate effectively with product, engineering, QA, and business stakeholders.
Required Qualifications

  • Experience building automation frameworks and reusable testing utilities.
  • Strong understanding of iOS application architecture patterns including MVC, MVVM, and MVI.
  • Experience with asynchronous programming concepts including async/await and Combine.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines for iOS development and testing.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills related to performance, memory, and crash analysis.
  • Proven ability to systematically reduce automation flakiness and improve test reliability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
