Job description

The Opportunity: We are looking for a Junior Software Developer to contribute to application development, backend engineering, database operations, and cloud-based environments. This position will primarily focus on database-related engineering while also supporting backend development and application functionality.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on software development experience, a strong understanding of databases, and familiarity with cloud platforms. This role is well suited for an early-career developer who enjoys solving technical problems, working across different technologies, and building a strong foundation in software engineering and database management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance software applications and backend services.
  • Build and support backend functionality using Python.
  • Work with JavaScript and Node.js to support application features and interfaces.
  • Perform database development and administration activities across various database platforms.
  • Write, review, and optimize database queries to support application requirements.
  • Monitor database performance and assist with troubleshooting database-related issues.
  • Support database maintenance, configuration, backups, recovery, and data integrity activities.
  • Work with PostgreSQL, Couchbase, Cassandra, Yugabyte, and other database technologies as required.
  • Troubleshoot application, database, and system issues and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Work within Linux environments and use command-line tools for development and troubleshooting.
  • Support applications and services deployed in AWS and Google Cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand technical requirements and deliver practical software solutions.
  • Assist with database migrations, upgrades, integrations, and application deployments.
  • Develop scripts and automation to improve development and database-related processes.
  • Analyze technical issues, identify root causes, and implement reliable fixes.
  • Contribute to code quality, application reliability, and overall engineering improvements.
  • Learn and apply emerging technologies that can improve software development and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 1–2 years of experience in software development or a related engineering role.
  • Hands-on software development experience with Python or another general-purpose programming language.
  • Understanding of software development fundamentals, including coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with databases and understanding of core database concepts.
  • Familiarity with one or more database technologies such as PostgreSQL, Couchbase, Cassandra, or Yugabyte.
  • Basic understanding of database administration, queries, performance, and data management.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and common command-line operations.
  • Understanding of cloud computing concepts and familiarity with AWS and/or Google Cloud.
  • Ability to investigate technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with multiple database technologies.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and Node.js.
  • Experience supporting database operations in development or production environments.
  • Knowledge of database performance tuning, replication, backup, recovery, and availability concepts.
  • Experience working with AWS and Google Cloud services.
